Weeks of Guided Prayer Lent 2012
Please excuse me making references to Lent before Christmas has finished! However, for practical purposes I will need to know who  wishes to take part in this by the end of the month so I would like to give you  as much time as possible for you to reflect on whether you would like to take part in this.
For the fans of Strictly Come Dancing you will be aware that to become a good dancer the inexperienced celebrity does need a partner to help them learn their steps; it would be impossible for them to learn on their own! The notion of Prayer Guiding works on a similar principle. Throughout the history of Christianity it has been recognised that we need fellow disciples to guide us in our living out of the gospel.  Prayer Guiding seeks to help people in affirming and developing their own personal prayer life.
From February 16- to March 29 weeks of Guided Prayer lead by the Ecumenical North East Prayer Guides will be taking place for the local Churches Together Group. The sessions will take place here at St Bede’s. At the initial introductory meeting a person is given a prayer guide whom they will meet at the same time for the following five weeks. Unlike the professionals on ‘Strictly’, Prayer Guides do not see themselves as  great experts  but they have been trained to listen to other talk about their own prayer life and offer a different ways that may help to develop their own relationship with God. They will offer to guide but not give commands or tell you there is only one way to pray. The Christian tradition has developed a number of ways of prayer over 2000 years. It is like a spiritual sweet box of ‘Roses’ or ‘Quality Street’.  What Weeks of Guided Prayer seeks to do is to open that spiritual sweet box to see what spiritual sweets could help you.
After five sessions with your prayer guide we will all come together as a group to give thanks to God for the blessing received in the preceding weeks.
If you are interested in taking part in the Weeks of Guided Prayer please sign the list in the narthex by the end of January. Please also indicate  if you would like to meet your prayer guide in the afternoons or evenings.
Baptism
Today we welcome Ashley Mary Buckland into God’s family in baptism.  We are asked to pray for Ashley,  her parents, and all preparing for baptism.

Liturgy Rota
The new liturgy rota commences on 22nd January.  If you are involved in the liturgy, please ensure you take your copy from the Narthex today.  Many thanks for your continued support.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

Starting this week on the 17th January the various Christian denominations have a week of prayer for Christian Unity.  I would like you to keep this in your prayers.  In the last twelve months we have seen closer cooperation with members of different churches with Open House and Matthew projects, this is wonderful to see and I hope  this working together more closely continues. As part of this week of prayer the Christian churches in the area have agreed to ‘exchange pulpits’’.  Next week at the Vigil Mass we will welcome Rev Terry Moat, Vicar of Sty Paul’s, Choppington who will preach at that Mass.

Holy Island Camp

Holy Island Camp desperately needs new volunteers this year.  All interested in helping to work in kitchens, caretaking or working with children are invited to a selection event on Saturday 4th February at St Vincent's Primary School, Monkchester Road, Walker, 9.00 am - 12.00 pm.  Do come along and find out a little bit more about volunteering! Alternatively contact Barbara Taws on 0191 388 2992 for more information.
