Holy Week Celebrations
Thank-you for the positive feedback I have received about the various Holy Week and Triduum liturgies. The Parish spirituality group are meeting this week to discuss Holy week so any more comments especially on we can develop the liturgies would be most appreciated.
My thanks to all who contributed in anyway. People’s generosity and hard work is much appreciated
 
 
.Reception, Baptisms and Confirmations
Prayers and Congratulations to all who received various sacraments of Initiation last week-end: Alice Burton-Allen, Jack Vardy, Jon, Sarah, Joseph and Benjamin  Warwick, Jamie Bellizzi and Harrison Bellizzi. We hope that you will feel you are very much part of our community of faith.
This weekend, as part of our new baptismal programme, we  celebrated the baptisms of Amelia Grace Russell, Kaitlin Parr on Saturday, and this Sunday we will baptise Elsa Riley, Jack Gittins Samuel Emlyn Owen and William Tomas Owen.
On Saturday, May 3rd, Mollie Mae Burke will also be baptised.
Our prayers and best wishes to them and their families as well.

 
Baptismal Catechesis
The next set of baptismal classes will be starting on 19th June.
 
Journey of Faith

Those who took part in the Journey of Faith programme have expressed an interest to carrying on with the discussions. As we have decided that there will be meetings on May 21st, June 25th and July 23rd at 7pm. The topics have yet to be confirmed but I will let you know in due course
 
Christ in the World
 
The next meeting of the group on Friday 16th May will be discussing the place of Mary, Mother of Jesus in the Church.
 
Mass for St Bede’s School This Wednesday at 9.30am there will be a Mass for St Bede’s School in the church. There will be no Mass at 10.00am. The Mass will be presided by Bishop Seamus. All parishioners and parents are welcome
 
Pentecost Service
There is a meeting after the 10.00am Mass this Sunday for anyone who would like to contribute to the Pentecost Service lead by our young people on Sunday June 8th at 4.00pm
 
Launch of Youth Mission Prayer Cards
This week-end, at the Vigil Mass Katie and Tony Hart and at the Sunday Morning  Mass, Patrick Shields and Joe Gallagher will give a brief presentation to the parish about the Youth Mission  that will take place later this year and the launch of the prayer card that has been designed by young people, many of whom  come from this parish. Please take a card and keep the Youth Mission and the young people in our parish in our prayers
 
Young People in the Parish  
 On Wednesday May 7th a group of young people from year 9 upwards are going to the monthly event at the Cathedral for young people known as ‘The Source’. The event is from 7.00pm to 8.30pm. Cars leaving St Bede’s at 6.15pm. Please let Fr Chris know if you are interested
 
 
Retiring Collection
There will be a retiring collection today for sick and retired priests.
 
Refugee/Asylum Seekers
There will be a collection next weekend for tins of food (not pork) for refugee and asylum seekers.  Please leave in Narthex. Next collection first Sunday of the month
 
Annual Mass for Justice and Peace
The annual Mass for J & P will be presided by the Bishop on Saturday 3rd May, at 10.00 am at the Cathedral.  Since I am vice chair of the diocesan J & P coordinating council I will be concelebrating at this Mass so I will have three spare places in my car if anyone would like to come for the Mass.
 
Celebration of Marriage
Everyone who wishes to give thanks for the Sacrament of Marriage is invited to join Bishop Séamus to celebrate Mass in St Mary’s Cathedral on Saturday 10th May at 11.00 am. I would like to wish you and all your families all the joy, hope and wonder of Easter as we celebrate the Resurrection of Christ.  I hope the Holy Week liturgies were a source of grace and blessing for you all. Just as the Risen Christ transformed his early followers, may you too experience a sense of renewal and transformation in meeting the Risen Lord.  I hope you and your families enjoy your Easter celebrations.

 

I would also like to take this opportunities to thank  all those who have contributed to Holy Week in the great variety of ministries and tasks that are required.  I do value people’s hard work, commitment,  and generosity.  It is much appreciated.

 

Reception, Baptisms and Confirmations

 

There are a number of people who will be receiving sacraments of Initiation this weekend.  At the Easter vigil I will receive into the Church Jon Warwick and I will also be baptising Jon’s wife Sarah, their two sons Ben and Joseph, and Jamie Bellizzi and Harrison Bellizzi. Jon, Sarah, Jamie and Harrison will also receive the sacrament of confirmation and welcomed to the Lord’s table to receive holy communion for the first time.  I would like to pass on my heartfelt congratulations to them all.  It has been a delight to get to know them on the journey of faith programme and I hope and pray that they will feel very much a part of this community that they will fully join this weekend.  I know that they are very appreciative of the prayers and support that has been shown to them by the parish.  Please continue to support them.

 

At the Mass for Easter Sunday morning we will celebrate the baptism’s of Alice Burton-Allen and Jack Vardy.  Our prayers and best wishes to them and their families.

Young People in the Parish  

 

 

· My thanks to those who came to the meeting on Sunday and for the ideas that came from it. There will be a further meeting for the proposed Pentecost service on Sunday 27th April after Mass. 

 

·  The prayer card for the YMT Mission will be launched on the weekend of 26/27th April.

Chaplain for our Schools

 

As you may have seen in the Northern Cross the federation of the Catholic schools in Bedlington and Cramlington are advertising for a full time chaplain to be appointed in May to take up post in September. If you know of anyone who might be interested could they please contact me as soon as possible.

 

The Malcolm Johnston Memorial Cup

 

This Sunday at 1.00 pm there will be the inaugural football match in honour of the late Malcolm Johnston.  This will be taking place at Blyth Town pitches, South Newsham Pavilion , Blyth. Kick off 1.00 pm.  All monies raised will be for the Bobby Robson Foundation.

 

Christ in the World

 

The next meeting of the group will be on Friday 16th May will be discussing the place of Mary, Mother of Jesus in the world.
