All Saints Holyday
Next Friday is the feast of All Saints. It is a Holyday of Obligation. Masses will be at 7.00 pm Thursday evening and 10.00 am Friday morning. This is an opportunity to remember all those who have inspired us with their wonderful examples of faith and love throughout the ages. What they have done and where they have gone we hope to follow!
All Souls
All Souls is an opportunity to remember all those whom we have loved and have gone before us. As All Souls falls on a Saturday and I think it is an important day to remember, there will be a Saturday morning Mass at 10.00 am, and we will still have the annual Mass for the Dead on 15th November. At this Mass we will read all those who have died during the past twelve months. As I mentioned last week there have been a number of bereavements recently, so please keep those bereaved in your prayers.
Journey of Faith
The journey of faith continues on Wednesday at 7.00 pm. All are welcome.
Relics of St Anthony of Padua
The relics of St Anthony will be at St Anthony’s Church, in Walker, on Monday (28th) from 3.00 to 10.00 pm.
Christ in the World group
We had a very useful discussion on pay day loans and I appreciate all those who shared. Useful information gathered will be forwarded onto Councillor Laura Pidstock who is bring to the attention of the County Council the activities of pay day loan companies. The next meeting will be on Friday 22nd November at 7.00 pm. For the topic please see following item in the bulletin.
Clergy Training Fund
This weekend is the annual collection for the Clergy Training Fund. We will have a pastoral letter from Bishop Seamus. We continue to pray for vocation. My personal hope is that the wonderful example
and teaching of Pope Francis will make people to reflect on what God is calling people to do with their lives.
Parish Ceilidh
The social committee are now selling tickets for the December parish ceilidh. It will take place on Saturday 7th December at 7.30 pm Tickets are £5. Since the last ceilidh was cancelled due to lack of interest I know that the social committee is keen for this one to be a great success. Since this is the only social gathering we have as a parish around the Advent and Christmas period I would encourage as many of you as possible to take part. The ceilidh group have given us a very generous discount since they like playing for us.
Churches Together Advent Service - 1st December
Thanks to all who came to the meeting on Sunday, it was very helpful. The next meting and rehearsal will be Sunday 10th November after Mass. I am particularly grateful to the presence and contribution of our young parishioners. It was lovely to see.
Parish Records
If you are new to the parish and have not filled in a form with your contact details please collect and fill in the form in the narthex, thanks
Christmas Hospitality for Students
Could you make the world a friendlier place by offering an invitation to an international student at a UK university, for just a day, a weekend, or 3 days at Christmas? Young adults from many countries would love to have a homely break and discover the real life of this country. HOST is a well-established charity which takes care in linking students with volunteer hosts: www.hostuk.org or call Graeme Davies 01661 834449.
CAFOD’S Worlds Gifts
If you are already scratching your head as to what to give people for their Christmas present in the Narthex there is a number of catalogues for their world gifts scheme where you can buy a variety of gifts on behalf of a relative or friend, from beehives to chickens, to goats, for those who need these precious gifts to sustain their lives.
