Mission Sunday
Today is World Mission Sunday,   It is an opportunity for us to support the growing Church overseas and to rejoice in the fact that we belong to the one family of God.  There will be a retiring collection taken today.  There are special envelopes in the Narthex if you wish to gift aid your donation.

Recent Bereavements
I am conscious that there has been many more funerals in the life of the parish this year.  It seems there will be about 50% more funerals this year than last year.  As well as the sense of loss and grief that families and friends experience I am aware that there has been a number of much loved and respected parishioners who have died this year so that a sense of loss and grief is also shared by the parish as a whole.  May we as a parish support each other, be inspired by the lives of the ones we loved, and never lose a sense of hope that the Gospel calls us to share.

Baptism
Today we welcome Matthew James Hamill into God’s family in baptism.  We are asked to pray for Matthew, his family, and all preparing for baptism.

Journey of Faith
The journey of faith continues on  Wednesday at 7.00 pm.  All are welcome.  John O’Neill is taking us through Mark’s Gospel

Annual Mass for the Dead
This Mass where we particularly remember all those who have sadly died in the past twelve months will be on Friday 15th November at 7.00 pm, followed by light refreshments.  The names of all who have died within the parish will be read out and families will be given the opportunity to present a lighted  candle.

Relics of St Anthony of Padua
The relics of St Anthony will be at St Anthony’s Church, in Walker, on  Monday 28th October from 3.00 to 10.00 pm.

Christ in the World group
We had a very useful discussion on pay day loans and I appreciate all those who shared.  Useful information gathered will be forwarded onto Councillor Laura Pidstock who is bring to the attention of the County Council  the activities of pay day loan companies. The next meeting will be on Friday 22nd November at 7.00 pm.  For the topic please see following item in the bulletin.

Extraordinary Synod on the Family
As I mentioned at the end of Mass last week was that hot off the press from the Vatican was the announcement from Pope Francis that next year there will be an Extraordinary Synod on the Family.  I think it is going to be essential that the experiences, concerns, and view points of lay people are represented at this synod.  As part of this process I would like the next Christ in the World group meeting to be an invitation to anyone in the parish to express their viewpoint as to what they would to be discussed at this synod. I will pass views expressed at this meeting to Bishop Seamus.

Day of Recollection
My thanks to all who took part in this day.  I am pleased that it seems to have been appreciated.  In February I will be going to the second part of the course on St John’s gospel which will focus on the events and teaching of Christ that took place on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.  It would seem very fitting to share these insights during Lent so we have booked Alnmouth Friary for Saturday 15th March for a parish Lenten day of reflection.  There will be more details in the new year about this.

Diocesan Justice & Peace AGM
This will be taking place on Saturday 26th October at St Charles’ in Gosforth from 10.30 am to 3.30 pm.  The theme of the day will be Politics, Poverty and the Church, exploring the church’s role at a time of austerity.

Churches Together Advent Service  -  1st December
Thanks to all who came to the meeting on Sunday, it was very helpful.  The next meting and rehearsal will be Sunday 10th November after Mass. I am particularly grateful to the presence and contribution of our young parishioners.  It was lovely to see.

Spirituality for Busy People
A day of reflection on Saturday  26th October at St Aidan’s RC Church, Holy Island 11.00 am to 3.00 pm (Tides open 10.25 am  -  6.50 pm).  A relaxing day during which we will look at different forms of prayer and explore how we might fit them into busy lives!

Parish Records
If you are new to the parish and have not filled in a form with your contact details please collect and fill in the form in the narthex, thanks

There will be  a special collection for the  Clergy Training Fund  next weekend.
