Journey of Faith

The journey of faith continues on  Wednesday at 7.00 pm.  All are welcome.  John O'Neill is taking us through Mark's Gospel

Mission Sunday

Next weekend there will be a retiring collection for World Mission Sunday.  This day, World Mission Sunday, is celebrated on this day all over the world.  It is an opportunity for us to support the growing Church overseas and to rejoice in the fact that we belong to the one family of God.  There will be special envelopes in the Narthex next weekend if you wish to gift aid your donation.

Annual Mass for the Sick and Housebound

This event arranged by our SVP group will be taking place on Friday 29th November at 1.00 pm.  All are welcome.  There will be the opportunity to receive the sacrament of the sick at this Mass.  As in previous years we will be joined by some members of St Bede’s Primary School.

Annual Mass for the Dead

This Mass where we particularly remember all those who have sadly died in the past twelve months will be on Friday 15th November at 7.00 pm, followed by light refreshments.  The names of all who have died within the parish will be read out and families will be given the opportunity to present a lighted  candle.

Moving Forward Together

This is an initiative that has been started by the diocese, led by Bishop Seamus to see how the diocese can face the challenges that lie ahead in the future especially with a shortage of priests.  There are now just 111 full time active priests working in the diocese.  While I was away on 26th September there was a day for clergy in the diocese to begin to explore how these challenges would be met.  Two things that became clear from this are that any future discussions and explorations must involve the laity and diocesan initiaves need to be implemented in a more quick and effective manner.  I know discussion will be taking place within the diocese as to how we can move forward and I will keep you posted on any further developments.

Churches Together Advent Service  -  1st December

Thanks to all who came to the meeting on Sunday, it was very helpful.  The next meting and rehearsal will be Sunday 10th November after Mass. I am particularly grateful to the presence and contribution of our young parishioners.  It was lovely to see.

Minnie Vinnies

Minnie Vinnies is part of the family of SVP and is designed to encourage children of junior school age to become aware of and live out the values and actions of the SVP.  A Minnie Vinnies group was established in St Bede’s Primary School on Wednesday 9th October.  SVP president John McGinn and I were present at this.  We hope to encourage links between Minnie Vinnies and the parish. We hope that at least some of the Minnie Vinnies will be present at the Mass in November for teh sick and housebound

Choppington Parish Council

My thanks to those parishioners who attended the commissioning service for Choppington Parish Council.  The event was deemed to be a success by all who took part.  I think it was very important for a Christian church to host an event where public members who serve the community were able to commit themselves in front of members of the community that they represent and before God.  It is hoped that this will become an annual event.

Parish Records

If you are new to the parish and have not filled in a form with your contact details please collect and fill in the form in the narthex, thanks

Spiritual needs of people with Dementia

There will be an event on 20th November from 1.00 to 4,.30 pm which is exploring the needs of people with dementia.  This will be taking place in Church of the Holy Nativity, Hillhead Parkway, Chapel House, Newcastle upon Tyne NE5 1DR.   If you are interested in taking part in this event either contact me or Isabel Quinn at: isabelquinn@northumbria.ac.uk
