Mass for Sick and Housebound

I would like to pass on my thanks to the SVP and to all who contributed to the annual Mass for the sick and housebound.  All the feedback I have received has been very positive.  It was lovely that so many people enjoyed the occasion.  I would also like to express my thanks to the children and staff of St Bede’s who took part in the service. Their contribution was also much appreciated.  It was lovely to see the ‘Minnie Vinnies’ in action.  We look forward to seeing them working with the parish in future events.

Liturgy Rotas

The new liturgy rota commences today.  If you are involved with the liturgy in any way copies of the rota (with notes attached) are available from the Narthex.  Please take a copy today.

Fr Jim Lennon

As many of you will already know Fr Jim Lennon who was a much loved and valued parish priest at St Wilfrid’s in Blyth for 18 years sadly passed away two weeks ago. His memorial Mass will be on Tuesday 10th December at 12 noon at Wilfrid’s, Blyth.

Advent Churches Together Carol Service

The chair of Bedlingtonshire Churches Together, the Reverend Terry Moat, has asked me to pass on his thanks to all who were involved in the ecumenical Advent carol service on Sunday.  All the feedback I have received has been extremely positive.  The service clearly made a big impression on many people.  I would also like to pass on my thanks to all those who in some way contributed to the service on Sunday.  It was wonderful to see the depth and variety of gifts on show.  It was also very encouraging to see what can be done when we work together within the parish and with other churches in the area.  May the hope, healing and peace that we reflected on during the service be shared by us all.  £427.38 was raised from the retiring collection which will be divided between the Matthew Project and CAFOD

The Gospel of Joy

The title above is the English translation for  Evangellii Gaudium, which is the title of an Apostolic Exhortation by Pope Francis.  In the autumn of 2012 there was a synod of Bishops on evangelism and this is the Pope’s response to it.  For those who have access to the internet it can be located at http://www.vatican.va/evangelii-gaudium  For those who have not access to the internet it will be available at the bookshop at the Cathedral.  In this document the Holy Father calls us to proclaim and live out the gospel with the hallmarks of love, joy and mercy.  He links the call to proclaim the gospel to showing our concern and compassion for the poor and the vulnerable.

Bedlington in Bloom

There will be a meeting on Tuesday 10th December at Bedlington Community Centre at 6.30 pm to promote “Bedlington in Bloom”.  If anyone would like to represent the parish at this meeting please contact me.
