Welcome
I am conscious at this time of year of visitors to the parish who are on holiday. If you are visiting us you are very welcome. We hope you are having a pleasant time visiting the area. Tea and coffee is served after 10.00 am on Sunday morning in the parish hall. You will be very welcome to join us there.
Day of Recollection
The autumn day of recollection will be on Saturday 4th October leaving at 9.15 am returning at 5.00 pm. The theme of the day will be Creation and Spirituality. This day is the feast day of St Francis and we will share in the liturgical celebrations of the community at 12 noon. Please sign the sheet in the Narthex if you would like to take part in this day.
Examination Result Time
I am aware that some of our young members of the community are waiting for exam results. We keep them in our prayers. Particular congratulations to parishioner and member of the parish council, Laura Johnson. She has gained a place at Manchester University Medical School. This is a great achievement under any circumstances but in the light of what Laura and all the family have gone through after the sudden and tragic death of her father, Malcolm, in February, her success is remarkable. Well done Laura! It bear witness to the fact that her gifts are not just intellectual ones and of the great support and encouragement given by family, friends, school and parishioners.
Christ in the World Group
The next meeting of the Group will be on Friday 5th September at 7.00pm. We will be exploring the lives of Saints who have inspired us. More details later
Youth Mission
We continue to say the youth prayer at the end of Mass. Copies of the prayer are in the Narthex. The Northern Cross have done an article, with a photograph of some of our young parishioners, regarding the youth mission. Please see the article which is on the notice board in the Narthex.
Gaza Petition
We received over thirty signatures for the petition promoted by CAFOD asking for the Foreign Secretary to increase the British governments efforts to bring about peace in Gaza. I have sent these signatures to CAFOD, if you were not here last week there is a copy of the petition in the Narthex for you to sign.
Cafod Emergency Appeals
CAFOD are running emergency appeals for the crises in Gaza, Iraq, Syria and South Sudan. If you would like any money to be given to these appeals please put in an envelope marked CAFOD and the respective appeal that you wish the money to be given to.
Pilgrimage
St Aidan's, Ashington are organising a pilgrimage to Rome and San Giovanni in September 2015. For more information email: Pauline Greaves [pauline_greaves@sky.com] or parish office 01670 812200.
Deanery Mass For Healing
There will be a deanery Mass for Healing at St Pauls Church, Percy Street, Alnwick on Wednesday 17th September, at 7.00 pm with anointing of the sick of laying on of hands. There will be Exposition of the blessed sacrament with an opportunity of reconciliation before hand from 6.00 pm. For further information please see poster in Narthex.
Journey of Faith Programme
The Journey of Faith Programme will resume in September. I have already had some enquiries. Parishioners have also asked if the course is available to those who are already Catholics. The answer is very much yes. In previous years practising and committed members of the parish have come to the sessions and have learned a great deal themselves and have been able to offer great support to those who are thinking about joining the Church.
Spiritus
Spiritus is an Ecumenical Festival of Spirituality and Prayer that will be taking place at Durham Cathedral on Saturday September 6th from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm. There will be over thirty workshops available on different types of spirituality and prayer, with the opportunity to take part in three of them. For more details go to:
