Easter and Holy Week  I hope you all had a blessed and joyous Easter and had at least some time for rest.  Now that I have returned from my holidays I would like to take the opportunity to thank all those who contributed to the Holy Week liturgies.  The feedback I have received has been very positive  On a personal level I appreciate people’s kind comments concerning my uncle’s presence on Good Friday and the Easter Vigil. I would also like to express my thanks to all the young people who contributed to the Good Friday service, they are a credit to their respective schools and parish. I would also like to congratulate all those who were received into the Church at the Easter Vigil.  I hope that they feel that they are very much a part of our parish community. We continue to pray for them. I would also like to express my thanks to all those who sponsored our new members.

Good Shepherd Sunday

Next weekend is Good Shepherd Sunday where we are asked to pray for vocations across the church.  At the Sunday morning Mass the primary school will have a major part of the Mass leading with the readings, offertory and the hymns. It is a reminder to us that our schools are very much a part of our parish community.  At this Mass Mr Groark will give a brief introduction of himself to the parish.

Wedding congratulations to Mark Hall and Anna Crawford who were married on Saturday.  We would like to offer them our prayers and best wishes for their future.  We remember them in our prayers.

Journey of Faith

As was the case last year we shall have a small number of meetings with those who were received into the church for them to reflect on their experience of being a member of our parish community.  The next meeting will be on Tuesday 5th May at 6.30 pm.

Christ in the World

The next meeting will be on Tuesday (21st)  at 7.00 pm

Our Confirmation group will meet on Thursday at 8.45 pm.

SVP  raffle results are posted in the Narthex.

General Election

Like you, you will probably feel slightly overwhelmed by the coverage in the media on the General Election.  I do think that it is important to reflect on how our faith will influence our decision for whom to vote for.  Please keep the election in our prayers.  Let us pray that whoever is elected will seek to build a society in accordance with the values of the Gospel.

Prison and the Churches

On 29th April and 6th May there will be two talks on the prison system and a reflection on what response should be of churches. They will be at Bedlington Christian Fellowship from 7.00 to 9.00 pm.  One of the two speakers is Canon David Peel and the other you will recognise if you go!

Lecture on “….. Wonder

Prof Frank Cottrell-Boyce, film writer and writer of the Olympics Opening Ceremony will be giving a lecture on Tuesday, 28 April, at 6.00 pm at Ushaw College. I think this will be really interesting and encourage people to go.

Diocesan Festival

The  third diocesan festival will take place on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st June at Emmaus Youth Village Consett.  Speakers include Fr Jim Clark from the United States, Fr Jim O’Keefe(moving together in hope coordinator), performing artists, RISE Theatre , More than Dance and much more.  Contact 0191 243 3313 or festival@diocesehn.org.uk.   Further details on poster in Narthex.

The Holy Year for Mercy

I thought you would be interested to know that Pope Francis has announced that from the feast of Christ the King and throughout 2016 will be a Holy Year for Mercy.  This reminds us of how mercy is at the heart of Francis’ papacy, on which we can truly reflect on during Holy Week.
