Please send a Christmas card to Father Ly, a Catholic priest who was sentenced to eight years imprisonment for “disseminating slanderous and libellous information” harmful to the state. He was rearrested by Vietnamese authorities in July 2011, ending one-year and four months of temporary medical parole. Mission At the end of a full and inspiring week, I am aware of an abundant of blessings. The first set of blessings has come from the mission. The four sessions were all varied and soul touching ways of deepening our encounter with the mystery of Jesus; of the Jesus we encounter in the sacrament of Baptism. For me personally ,all four sessions were able to touch something of the essence of Christ and communicate that to those who were present –this was a beautiful gift. I also am aware that the liturgies were a wonderful collaboration of many parishioners who between them blessed the rest of the community with their imagination, creativity, thoughtfulness, prayer, honesty, generosity and courage. We have seen what the parish can achieve with the help of the Spirit.– it was wonderful to witness. Sincere and respectful thanks to all who took part. As a parish and myself personally I am also aware of the tremendous contribution that Ian Smith, Mike Lagrue and other friends have given to us all this week. Their commitment, service and encouragement to our parish has been a significant contribution to the blessings of this week. Ian and Mike and all the student Cross ‘mob’- from me and the parish a huge thank-you for all you have contributed to the week.
Another set of blessings have been the work done in the schools. I am grateful to Mr Todd and Miss Horn for allowing the mission team into the schools and also to Richard Crulley and Ellie Marshall, the chaplaincy team at St Benet’s, for their co-operation and assistance in St Benet’s. I hope we gave all the pupils we encountered some food for thought and we definitely gave them some songs to sing and I hope we also brought some joy.
Finally I would like to thank the Parish for a wonderful Silver Jubilee celebration on Friday. Thanks to all who arranged and contributed to the wonderful buffet. Thanks also for your kind gifts of a laptop computer and a beautiful personalised stole that celebrates the theme of Baptism for our Mission week. I am also aware of parishioners who have given individual cards and gifts, many of which are still be opened but i will get round to it soon! So, there have been so many blessings of the last week. I give thanks to God and to the generosity of the parish, my family and so many friends.
