First Holy Communions

I have had a lot of positive feedback about the First Holy Communion celebration.  My thanks to all who contributed to such a lovely day. We continue to pray for our new young children who have just received their First Holy Communion.

Restructuring of Parishes in the Deanery

Just a note primarily for those who did not see a bulletin last week, the parish meeting on 9th June made it clear that the primary focus of the parish needs to be ensuring that as many people as possible are contributing to the life and activities within the parish.  I would encourage you to look at the back of church that lists the various activities to see if there is something you would like to be involved.

Parish Youth Forum

As I mentioned recently one of the decisions of the parish council in the light of the very full and helpful discussion with some of parishioners who have been recently confirmed, it was decided that a youth forum would be established in the parish for young people to decide for themselves what they would like to be happening within the life of the parish.  The forum will have its first meeting on 7th July at 11.30 am.  All young people are very welcome.
Parish Ceilidh

The next parish ceilidh will be on Saturday 13th July starting at 7.30 pm. Tickets available from members of the social committee.

St Bede’s Football Club

Last week I went to the AGM of the North East football league.  It was a fascinating meeting, it was very obvious that the organisers behind the football league see this as a platform to proclaiming our faith in Jesus Christ to young men in the region.  I had not appreciated that running a football league is actually a football league  of 26 clubs with two divisions is a big undertaking and required an awful lot of organising.  I left with a tremendous respect for all those involved in this football league.  It requires a great deal of effort and commitment which is motivated by their love and commitment to Jesus Christ.  All in all very impressive.  I am delighted that St Bede’s football club has survived its first season and that our manager, Dominic Molloy, is already preparing for next season. I am delighted that the club has provided a number of young men in the area with something to fill in their
time. We hope to strengthen the links between the football club and the parish in the coming season.  If you or know of anyone who may be interested in joining the club please contact Dominic Molloy on 07725039180.

CAFOD Syrian Appeal
The national Cafod office have been in touch to say that the Catholic communities in England and Wales have raised £1,483,139  for its emergency appeal for the ongoing crisis in Syria. The Disaster Emergency Committees (DEC) which collects  money on behalf all humanitarian charities during emergencies has contributed a further £239,000
Cafod. I am happy to collect and forward any further  funds given for this important appeal. We continue to keep the ongoing crisis in our prayers

Diocesan Festival 2013

Fr Chris is looking for guinea pigs!

As mentioned last week I am giving a paper at a conference in July and would like to have a dry run beforehand.  I am interested with the overlaps between faith and culture with a particular reference to the possible common ground between the tradition of Christian faith and the folk music tradition. I will be doing this on the afternoon of 30th June.  Drinks and nibbles available from 5.15 pm with the seminar starting at 6.00 pm and should be finished by 7.15 pm.  If you are interested please let me know.
