Restructuring of Deanery  meeting this Sunday

After Mass this Sunday there will be an open meeting of the parish to  explore what the restructuring of the deanery will mean for St Bede’s. I would also like to discuss how lay people will need to be more involved when there is not a full time priest in the parish

Ministers of Eucharist

My thanks to those who came to the meeting on Thursday and to those who have expressed a willingness to take communion to the sick and housebound and lead Eucharistic services.  There are forms for special ministers to fill in that will give me an indication as to what special ministers are willing to do in the parish.

First Holy Communions  -  16th June

Next Sunday at 10.00 am we have one of the most joyous days of the year with our First Holy Communion day.  We pray for all those boys and girls who are about to receive their First Holy Communion.  We pray that it will be a lifelong start of the love of the Eucharist.

Christ in the World Group  -  14th June

The next meeting of the group in on Friday at 7.00 pm.  We will have a discussion on Pope Francis’  comment “Called to be a poor church for the poor”  I will be leading the discussion.

Parish Council

The main item for discussion was about young people in the parish.  I would like to on behalf of the parish council express sincere thanks to Abigail Middlemas, Katie Hart, Patrick Shields, and Olivia Grundy-Priest for taking the time to share their views on young people and the parish. It was very clear that they would like to see the Catholic ethos of the school developed and we will be talking to Mr Todd about this.  It was agreed that a youth forum should be established and that there would be representatives on the parish council.  The first meeting of the forum will be after Mass on 7th July.  All young people are welcome to attend.

Open House

Tuesday 11th June, Members of Blyth Operatic Society.  Or come along any Tuesday 6 to 8.00 pm.

Fr John Gibbons Golden Jubilee

On Monday 10th June Fr John Gibbons is celebrating his Golden Jubilee.  I will be attending the celebrations and will pass on best wishes from the parish. Please keep Fr John in your prayers for his fifty years of dedicated service to the Priesthood.

Episcopal Vicar for Northumberland

Monsignor Philip Carroll has sadly had to resign the post of Episcopal Vicar due to poor health.  Bishop Seamus has appointed Fr Stephen Watson as the new Episcopal Vicar for Northumberland.  Please keep Fr Stephen and the parish of St Aidan’s in your prayers as he takes up this important responsibility in the diocese.

Chernobyl Children

Thank you to all who generously donated clothing for the Chernobyl children.  I know that Amanda and Joe Gallagher were very touched and appreciative of people’s generosity.  The children are here for the month of June with two boys staying with the Gallaghers for a fortnight.  Our prayers and best wishes to the Gallaghers and all involved in this important project.

Days of Recollection

On 12th June at 7.00 pm at St Aidan’s Ashington,  there will be an evening of reflection for the deanery  called ‘Rehallowing the Land, reflecting on the legacy of the Northern Saints.
