Churches Together Advent Service
My thanks to all those who expressed an interested in this about a dozen parishioners including some of our recently confirmed young parishioners. The next meeting to plan the service will be after Mass on Sunday 6th October. If you have not expressed an interest in being involved but would like to be please let me know and I will give you the notes and copies of possible readings that we may use.
Parish Council Meeting
At the parish council meeting on Monday evening the council agreed the following:
· Explore the possibility of taking young parishioners to the next Papal World Youth Day which will be in Kracow in 2016
· In seeking to reduce energy costs to explore if there could be another venue for week-day Masses during the winter months
· In the light of the kind offer from the Anglican Parish of Choppington and Stakeford to celebrate a Catholic Mass in their Churches, Fr Chris will examine the possibility of enquiring with other parts of the parish so that on a weekly basis during Lent there will be ‘Station Masses’ in the villages and outlying parts of the parish.
Open House’s Second Birthday
Congratulations to Open House on celebrating their second birthday. On September 24th Open House will be having a meal at Charlton’s in Cambois.
Meeting with New Dean
Now that we a part of a new enlarged deanery with north Northumberland, we have a new Dean, who is Fr Ian Hoskins, Parish Priest of Longhorsley. I met with Fr Ian on August 28th. In the light of the Bishop’s announcement that the parish will be sharing a priest at some point and have one Mass at a week-end, we discussed possible options. He was not in a position to offer any further clarity as to what will happen in the future but he was pleased that the parish was aware of that changes will happen and that the parish is seeking to take responsibility for various roles and ministries within the life of the parish. He was particularly impressed with the collage at the back of the Church that highlights what goes on in the parish and noted the importance of the parish having the only Catholic comprehensive in Northumberland
Diocesan Altar Servers Mass
I have had one Altar server who has expressed a wish to take part in the Diocesan Altar Servers Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral, on 15th October at 11.00 am. If any more Altar servers would like to take part please contact me this weekend.
Choppington Parish Council
On Sunday 6th October at 4.00 pm there will be a commissioning service for the members of Choppington Parish Council at Holy Family Anglican Church, Stakeford. The church leaders in the area are delighted that the council would like to have their work recognised within the context of Christian faith. So I would recommend all parishioners living within the boundaries of their parish council to attend.
