Note of Thanks from Alison Johnston and family, who have asked me on their behalf to express their heartfelt thanks for all the support, kindness and prayers that the parish has expressed in various different ways after the sudden and tragic death of Malcolm.  There are too many people to mention by name, but people’s generosity and care is very much appreciated.

Ministers of Compassion and Consolation

The note above from Alison and family reminds us that the start of

2014 has been traumatic for the parish especially for the members of the Sykes and Johnston families who had the sudden and tragic deaths of their respective loved ones, Daniel and Malcolm.  Please continue to support them with your prayers and acts of kindness.  I would like to commend the parish for being wonderful ministers of consolation and compassion.  You have been very much the eyes and the hands of Jesus and this has been appreciated by the respective families.  Please continue to continue giving the wonderful support you have already shown.

Journey of Faith

The journey of faith programme continues on Wednesday evening at 7.00 pm.  Our four candidates, Jon and Sarah Warwick, and Harry and Jamie Belizzi, will be taking part in at the Rite of Election on Sunday 9th March, at St Mary’s Cathedral, Newcastle.   We will be having a sending out liturgy for them next Sunday, 2nd March here at St Bede’s at the 10.00 am Mass. Please continue to support them with your prayers.

Pastoral Visit by Bishop Seamus

Bishop Seamus will be making a pastoral visit to the parish as part of his visit to parishes in the deanery on the weekend of 22/23rd March. The Bishop will preside at the Masses and will informally meet parishioners afterwards.

Lenten Day of Recollection

For the first time we are going to have a day of recollection during Lent. This will take place on Saturday 15th March.  We will be going to the Friary at Alnmouth.  I will be sharing some of the insights I learned while I was taking part in the gathering on St John’s Gospel .  This will include looking at the Passion and Resurrection stories in this gospel, so this will be very relevant for Lent. If you would like to take part please sign the sheet in the Narthex.

Please see information sheet about this in the Narthex.

Mission Workshop

This is to prepare for the mission that will be taking place in December at St Benet Biscop’s High School led by the diocesan Youth Mission Team (YMT) This will be taking place on Sunday 9th March from 3.00 to 4.30 pm.  The workshop is open to young people and adults.  The workshop has been brought about from suggestions from our own young parishioners so it would be good if we can support them in this project.

Baptismal Catechesis in the Parish

As mentioned in previous weeks the way we prepare and celebrate the sacrament of baptism in the parish is going to be radically different.  Please see information sheet about this in the Narthex.

Fr Patrick Laydon

While I was away my uncle, Fr Patrick Laydon, who is a retired priest in residence at St Cuthbert’s, Throckley, was taken into emergency respite care having twice gone missing and been found by police during this month.  It is evident that his dementia is severely limiting his capacity to look after himself.  Since I am his next of kin, time and energy will be focused on ensuring that his needs are properly catered for. I would appreciate your prayers and understanding as I seek to ensure that he is properly looked after.
