Youth Mission at St Benet Biscop’s School
After a time of much preparation and prayer throughout the deanery, along with inspirational leadership from our young people, the youth mission team start their mission at St Benet’s this Wednesday until 18th December. Please keep the mission in your prayers. This is a great opportunity for our young people in the school to have their faith renewed and strengthened. We will say the mission prayer at the end of each Mass during Advent.
During the mission there will be Mass in St Benet’s School at 12.30.in the new school chapel situated in the Conference Centre, on 10th, 11th, 12th, 16th and 17th December. People can bring a packed lunch and stay for Exposition in the chapel from 2.00 - 3.00 pm. Our parish will take responsibility for “hosting” the Masses on Wednesday 10th December and Wednesday 17th December. I have had a request for volunteers to guide people from the deanery who will be using the parish car park through the grounds of St Bede’s School to St Benet’s Chapel.
I would like three volunteers from 12.10 to 12.30 pm on 10th, 11th, 12th, 16th and 17th December. Please sign the list in the narthex. During Advent we will say the Mission prayer at the end of each Mass.
There is also a family night for all on at the end of the mission on Wednesday 17th December in St Benet’s at 7.00 pm. I would encourage as many people as possible to take part in this event.
God’s Word for God’s Coming To help make this time of Advent a time of prayer for ourselves and our community. I invite you to choose a favourite line from the bible or a prayer and with the sheets that we have provided to write it out four times and cutting it out to place one at your bedside, one on the bathroom mirror, one on the fridge and one at your computer, if you have one. We can faithfully reflect on a piece of scripture that means something to us it will hopefully help us to prepare for Christmas.

Day of Reflection for Forward Together in Hope
I went to the evening of reflection and prayer at the Cathedral on Tuesday evening led by Bishop Seamus. The reason for the gathering was the ‘Forward Together in Hope’ development plan. In his presentation Bishop Seamus said very little concerning the development plan. Instead, he talked a about the importance of the Eucharist and how that should be central to our lives. If people have to travel a few more miles to Mass they should not see this as a burden but as sacrifice we should be willing to give to receive the great gift of the Eucharist. He also stressed the importance of contemplative prayer so that we can give the opportunity for God to gaze on us.
Prayer cards have been made for all to use in the diocese . Please take on in the narthex and if you are take communion or visit the sick and housebound please ensure they have a prayer card as well.
Concert for Iraq Christians
I have been asked to publicise a concert of piano and organ music in aid of Iraqi Christians in need. This will be on Saturday 27th December at 12.45 pm at St Andrew’s Church, Worswick Street, Newcastle.
