Youth Mission at St Benet Biscop’s School

We are in the middle of the youth mission which began on Wednesday. Please keep the mission in your prayers.  This is a great opportunity for our young people in the school to have their faith renewed and strengthened. We will say the mission prayer at the end of each Mass during Advent.
As I write the first two days of the mission have been completed and have gone well. The sessions with YMT are with about 120 children at  time. Sitting in  for a session with year 10,I am impressed by the level of humour and participation, along with a creative and contemporary way to present the essence of the Gospel message. One year pupil said to me as she left ‘That was the best assembly I have been to’

This week there will be Mass in St Benet’s School at 12.30.in the new school  chapel situated in the Conference Centre, on 16th and 17th December.  People can bring a packed lunch and stay for Exposition in the chapel from 2.00  -  3.00 pm. Our parish will take responsibility for “hosting” Mass on Wednesday 17th December. I have had a request for volunteers to guide people from the deanery who will be using the parish car park  through the grounds of St Bede’s School to St Benet’s Chapel.

The grand finale of the mission is the Family Night on Wednesday 17th December in St Benet’s at 7.00 pm. This event is open to all the school and all the local parishes.  I would encourage as many people as possible to take part in this event.  One of the speakers will be one of our own parishioners, Patrick Shields, who will share about the young people’s contribution to the mission.

God’s Word for God’s Coming   To help make this time of Advent a time of prayer for ourselves and our community.  I invite you  to choose a favourite line from the bible  or a prayer and with the sheets that we have provided  to write it out  four times and cutting it out to place one at your bedside, one on the bathroom mirror, one on the fridge and one at your computer, if you have one.   We can faithfully reflect on a piece of scripture that means something to us it will hopefully help us to prepare for Christmas.  My thanks to those who have already made contributions on the notice board on the wall  in church. There is plenty of space for more!
