Confirmations
I would like to express my thanks to Bishop Seamus and to all who contributed to making Friday evening such a lovely event. My thanks to al those who have supported our young people in their journey to this sacrament. Special thanks to Joe Gallagher, Virginia Lopez and Claire Mitchell who do a wonderful job in preparing our confirmation candidates. I would also like to pass on my prayer and congratulations to Rose Lee Alliston, Nathaniel Anstee, Cameron Bell, Mia Bliss, Chloe Priest and Harriet Priest. I sincerely hope and pray that in receiving the sacrament it will help you to be a faithful disciple of Jesus and an active member of this community of faith.
Moving Forward Together in Hope - (MFTH)
The questionnaire has three parts; the first section seeks to discover the facts about our parish, the second section wants us to reflect on our parish, and the third section invites us to explore the way forward for the future. In order to do this I propose the following timetable:
· Father Chris to meet with parish contacts, parish council and heads of school to explore how the first part of the questionnaire is to be completed.
Friday July 10th at 1pm: Mass for Sick & Housebound to be commissioned as ‘Anchors’, to pray for the parish as we go through this process
· There will be a meeting of young people in the parish on Sunday 12th July at 11.00 am to discuss “the young people section” of the questionnaire.
· From now till the end of August I will work with the parish contacts for this process, Tony and Katie Hart, along with the parish council and other parishioners, to fill in the first part of the questionnaire.
· On Saturday 12th September from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm there will be an open meeting in the hall for us to look at the first part of the questionnaire and to begin to reflect on the answers. For those who cannot make that day there will be an evening on Wednesday 16th September at 7.00 pm.
· From 7.30 pm on 2nd October to after the vigil Mass on 3rd October we will have a 24 hour prayer time to reflect on this process.
· On 31st October from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm we will continue our reflections and then begin to explore the way forward.
It really is important that we are as thorough and as thoughtful in our responses. If we do not engage fully in this process as a parish then it will increase the likelihood of this church being closed.
Parish Council Meeting will be on Monday 22nd June. The main item of the agenda will be the moving forward together in hope process, but please contact me or any other members if you have any items for the agenda.
Baptisms
The next baptism are on 27/28th June Please pray for the children and their parents.
World Youth Day
In making arrangements for this event next year it will be helpful to me to know which young people want to take part. So far three young people have expressed a desire to go. If any young people wish to take part please let me know at the end of this month. The Diocese has informed me that its pilgrimage is only for those who are 18 or older. I am exploring other ways those under 18 could take part in the pilgrimage
New Papal Encyclical
On Tuesday Pope Francis will be publishing ‘Laudato Sii - Be Praised’. This seeks to add to the body of Catholic Social Teaching by exploring our relationship with the environment and God’s creation. Pope Francis will argue that action on climate change is a moral issue. The Encyclical will be available online on the Vatican web site: w2.vatican.va
DIOCESAN FESTIVAL ‘Inspire 15’ I strongly recommend and urge your support and promotion of the Diocesan Festival this year. This event is always a tremendous celebration of faith in our Diocese. The details of the weekend can be found on the diocesan website and we welcome back Fr Jim Clarke from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles – an entertaining and wise speaker.
A Message from Dancho News from the Maria Luisa Orphanage, Bulgaria. Many parishioners have supported, both financially and through prayer, the volunteering work which began with Dancho, when Rebecca, Laura and Beth volunteered in 2011. Please collect a copy of ‘Dancho’s Message’ from the Narthex. This will update you on Dancho’s progress and changes in his Care Plan. Dr. Panova, the Director of the Maria Luisa Orphanage, passes on her thanks, ‘You are very special people to me. Be healthy!
Booking is essential. If you would like to attend, please contact us at:adult.formation@diocesehn.org.uk or on 0191 243 3313
