The Body and Blood of  Christ

Today we celebrate the Body and Blood of Christ.  Christ’s great gift to the church enables us to celebrate and share in the mystery of our salvation in Christ.

The Feast of the Sacred Heart

Next Friday we celebrate the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  I was going to encourage you to come to the Mass but many will come to Mass any way for either of the two Requiems that are respectively taking place that day for Edith Wilson and Sylvie Edington. I sense that both these two women of faith would have appreciated their funerals being celebrated on this great feast day of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. May they rest in peace.

Moving Forward Together in Hope  -  (MFTH)

My thanks to those who came to the message last week to hear about the next stage of this process.  The questionnaire has three parts;  the first section seeks to discover the facts about our parish, the second section wants us to reflect on our parish, and the third section invites us to explore the way forward for the future.  In order to do this I propose the following timetable:

· From now till the end of August I will work with the parish contacts for this process, Tony and Katie Hart, along with the parish council and other parishioners, to fill in the first part of the questionnaire.

· On Saturday 12th September from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm there will be an open meeting in the hall for us to look at the first part of the questionnaire and to begin to reflect on the answers.  For those who cannot make that day there will be an evening on Wednesday 16th September at 7.00 pm.

· From 7.30 pm on 2nd to after the vigil Mass on 3rd October we will have a 24 hour prayer time to reflect on this process, and on 31st October from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm we will continue our reflections and then begin to explore the way forward.

It really is important that we are as thorough and as thoughtful in our responses.  If we do not engage fully in this process as a parish then it will increase the likelihood of this church being closed.

Christ in the World

The next meeting will be Friday 12th June.  The group agreed that we would reflect from a faith perspective on  ‘Making a noise for Bedlington’.

Baptisms

The next baptismal classes will begin on Thursday (11th) and 18th June, with baptisms on 27th and 28th June.  Please contact me if you want your child baptised for that weekend. As soon as possible.

A Message from Dancho

News from the Maria Luisa Orphanage, Bulgaria. Many parishioners have supported, both financially and through prayer, the volunteering work which began with Dancho, when Rebecca, Laura and Beth volunteered in 2011. Please collect a copy of ‘Dancho’s Message’ from the Narthex. This will update you on Dancho’s progress and changes in his Care Plan. Dr. Panova, the Director of the Maria Luisa Orphanage, passes on her thanks, ‘You are very special people to me. Be healthy!’

World Youth Day 2016

In making arrangements for this event next year it will be helpful to me to know which young people want to take part.  So far three young people have expressed a desire to go.  If any young people wish to take part please let me know at the end of this month. The Diocese has informed me that its pilgrimage is only for those who are 18 or older. I am exploring other ways those under 18 could take part in the pilgrimage

Congratulations

On behalf of myself, the catechists and all the parish, I would like to pass on my since and joyful  congratulations and best wishes to our young people who were confirmed on Friday evening.  My thanks to all parishioners who came to support them and all those who contributed food.  Please continue to pray for our young people that they will be committed members of our community seeking to follow Christ.
