Welcome Back Sunday 26/27th May

Pentecost Sunday has been designated by Bishop Seamus as ‘Welcome Back Sunday’ when we are encouraged to invite people who have drifted away from the Church to be once again be part of the active life of the parish.

First Holy Communion

There will be a rehearsal today (27th)  from 10.00  to 10.45 am for all candidates for First Holy Communion.  There will also be a session for the parents of the First Holy Communion children with Fr Chris at 10.00 am in the upper room.

Children’s Liturgy

We are in need of new helpers with the children’s liturgy.  If you think you would like to help why not ask to sit in at one of the children’s liturgies to see if you would like to be involved.

Parish Mission

I am grateful to all who came to the meeting on 13th May.  I have decided we will carry on with a mission that is focusing on our call to follow Christ.  That the evening sessions of the mission will focus on baptism, the sacrament of marriage, young people in our community, and what does it mean to follow Christ for those who have never married,  for those who have been married but are no longer living out that vocation.  My hope is to bring people together from those various groups to reflect on what the call of Christ means for them in the light of the tradition of the Church and then explore how this can be expressed through some form of prayerful liturgy.   I will soon put lists on the notice board of the various groups that will be needed for the mission for you to decide which group you would like to contribute.  Please keep this in your prayers and encourage each other to take part.

St Robert’s

As some of you may know there was a fire in the Sacristy at St Robert’s last Sunday.  Fortunately no one was injured and the damage is confined to the Sacristy. At the time of writing the hope is that the Church will still be able to be used by the parish.  I have contacted Fr Jones to offer the parish’s support and prayers at this difficult time.  Please keep Fr Jones and the whole parish in your prayers.

Mill Hill Appeal

Next weekend we welcome Fr David Bingham from the Mill Hill Missionaries who is based in Durham who will be talking about the work of the Order and no doubt encouraging you to take one of their famous red boxes.

Refugees and  Asylum Seekers

There will be a collection next weekend for tins of food and meat (not pork).  Please leave your donations in the Narthex.  Further donations on the first Sunday of the month.

Christ in the World Group

The next meeting of the Christ in the World Group will be on Friday  16th June. The session will be led by Fr Chris and will be on ‘The pastoral, spiritual and social issues of caring for people with Dementia and their carers’

Football Players Wanted!

One of our parishioners, Dominic Molloy, is looking at the possibility of whether a team from the parish could be established to be members of the North East Christian Fellowship League. The league was established to enable fellow Christians to play their  football within a Christian ethos. Each team must have at least 5 Christians. Dominic has had interest from some of his friends and family but obviously would like to see if other parishioners would like to take part. Dominic is looking for players of any ability aged 16 upwards to apply, (Professionals, ex pros, Misters Messai and Ronaldo are more than welcome!) .  If interested please see poster in the narthex and or contact Dominic on  07725039180 or at dminicjospephmolloy@gmail.com Many thanks to Dominic for this initiative.

St Bede- a glimpse of his life in readings and chant

This very interesting recital of some St Bede’s  writings  and the chants he would have sung will be given at Lit & Phil Library, (near Central Station, Newcastle) on Tuesday, 29th May at 7.30 pm.  Tickets £5 and at Brinkburn Priory (Longframlington, Morpeth) on Saturday 9th June at 3.00pm. The recital here is free but there will be the usual entry fee of £3.20 for adults and £2.00 for children.
