Parish Mission December 2012 Sunday 13th May 12 noon - After Mass there will be an open meeting to all the parish with a shared table where Fr Chris will say more about the mission and how the mission will be planned and organised.
Parish Patronal Feast—25th May 25th May is the Feast of our parish Patron and I would like to encourage as many of the parish to be involved in this. On the morning of the 25th at 9.30 am the whole of the primary school will be coming to church to celebrate Mass for St Bede. In the evening at 7.00 pm there will be the parish Mass for our patron and this will be followed by a barbecue in the blazing sunshine! Tickets are now available from members of the social committee and the cost is £5. Please put this date in your diary. The celebration of the patronal feast links into what I was saying about the parish mission in terms of acknowledging that we are part of a parish community that we all have something to contribute to the parish and building up the parish through using our own gifts and talents is really important.
Welcome Back Sunday 26/27th May Pentecost Sunday has been designated by Bishop Seamus as ‘Welcome Back Sunday’ when we are encouraged to invite people who have drifted away from the Church to be once again be part of the active life of the parish. Invitation notes are available at the back of church if you would like to give to anyone you think might be interested.
First Holy Communion On Sunday’s 20th and 27th May there will be a rehearsal from 10.00 to 10.15 am for all candidates for First Holy Communion. There will also be a session for the parents of the First Holy Communion children with Fr Chris at 10.00 am in the upper room.
Children’s Liturgy As I said at the Sunday morning Mass last week we are in need of new helpers with the children’s liturgy. If you think you would like to help why not ask to sit in at one of the children’s liturgies to see if you would like to be involved.
Thank you from Beth, Laura and Rebecca We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has got involved helping us to fundraise for the Maria Luiza orphanage in Bulgaria. £600 is a tremendous amount of money which can be used to make a real difference to the children's lives. The orphanage director, Dr Panova, has told us that she would like to repair the outer walls of the buildings, as they are rotting and mouldy. This will be very expensive but thanks to our generous donation she will now be able to carry out this important piece of maintenance. Without your help and generosity this would not have been possible, so on behalf of all the children of Maria Luiza, thank you.
A special thanks to all the wonderful cooks who produced such lovely food for the afternoon tea (sorry to have missed that!). A big thank you to Alma, Ann and Lilian for all their hard work looking after everybody on the day.
There will be a Retiring Collection next week for World Communications Day.
Prayer and Worship Group The group met last week and we agreed on the following: we will have a day of recollection in the autumn, hopefully in October. We hope to return to the Franciscan Friary in Alnmouth. More details to be given later.
Counters A new rota sheet is available in the Narthex. Please take a copy. We still need volunteers to assist in this ministry please let me know, if you feel able to help.
