There will be an initial meeting for parents and carers who would like their children to receive their First Holy Communion next year on Tuesday 17th July  in St Bede’s School at 6.00 pm. This meeting will explain the programme and what is involved for children, parents and carers. The school has notified parents and carers of children who will be in year three next year. If anyone whose child is not at St Bede’s would like their child to receive their first holy communion next year, please contact Fr Chris

Parish Mission
Thanks to Alison Johnston who has created a display on a notice board in the narthex about the mission. On the board there are lists for the various session that will need to be prepared for people to volunteer  My friend Michael Legrue who has been to the parish and led a music workshop in May last year, he will assist with the music for the mission.  He will also be coming for the weekend of 15/16 September so I would like to use that weekend as an opportunity for those who want to be involved in the mission to come together to pray, reflect, and work together for the liturgies for that week.  So if you would like to be involved please keep that weekend free.

Weeks of Guided Prayer Lent 2012
At the last meeting of the Prayer and Spirituality group we discussed the weeks of guided prayer that had taken place during Lent. The group agreed that there could be some value in bringing together those in the parish who took part in the ‘Weeks’  for a ‘one off’ meeting to share how the experience has affected on them and to explore further ways to sustain and develop one’s prayer life. This will take place in the Hall on Thursday 19 July at 7.00pm
Prison Visiting at HMP Northumberland
HMP  Northumberland, the merger of HMP Acklington and HMP Castington, now holds over 1200 adult male prisoners. At present, there are no Official  Prisoner Visitors in this very large prison. Volunteers are urgently needed so that prisoners with no family may be able to get a visit every 3-4 weeks. Prisoners who receive regular visits benefit greatly and their rehabilitation programmes is more likely to be successful. If you feel that you can spare an afternoon every 3-4 weeks then please consider offering to volunteer.
Fr Tony Rattigan O.P. ( A Dominican Priest) is due to oversee all visiting. He is hoping to establish a  group of Official  Prison Visitors on whom he can call upon as quickly as possible. Please read the leaflets in the narthex. For further information please contact Mrs I McNulty (Northern Secretary for Official Prison Visiting) on 0191 528 1977 or Fr Tony Rattigan on 01670 762300
Christian Solidarity Worldwide
Please continue to pray for those persecuted for their beliefs. Among the concerns of Christian Solidarity Worldwide include:  Pastor Nadarkhani, an Iranian Pastor, who although he has had his death penalty for leaving Islam to become a Christian commuted, he is still in prison for over three years and he may face fresh charges; the persecuted Christians of Northern Nigeria, where several churches have been bombed and finally, the need continued progress for human rights in Burma.
