Appeal

This weekend we  welcome Glyn Roberts member of the St Barnabas Society who will be making an appeal on its behalf.  The St Barnabas Society seeks to offer support to Anglican clergy and their families when they decide to become Roman Catholics. The Peter’s Pence collection will be deferred until 14/15 July.

Mass Times

As I mentioned last week and stated in the bulletin the parish council has proposed from the first Sunday of advent the Sunday morning Mass will be at 10.00 am.  From next Sunday and the two subsequent Sunday’s ballot papers will be available for you express your preference.

Sea Sunday

Next week is Sea Sunday, when the Church remembers all those who live and work at sea.  Seafarers are commonly recruited from poorer countries where wages are lowers.  Seafarers work in difficult and often dangerous conditions suffering from loneliness, spiritual deprivation and even exploitation as they transport the goods we use and consume every day.  The Apostleship of the Sea (AOS) is the official  maritime welfare agency  of the Catholic Church in Great Britain.  There will be a retiring collection next weekend for AOS.

Baptism

Today we welcome Holly Elizabeth Blackhall into God’s family in baptism.  We are asked to pray for Holly, her parents, and all preparing for baptism.

Final Holy Communion Liturgy

Next weekend we have the final liturgy of the First Holy Communion programme.  The new programme has one liturgy and a subsequent event after the reception of First Holy Communion.  The theme for   Mass  is ‘Sending Out’.

African Art

Helena Slater was delighted with people’s response and generosity.  She sold just over £400 worth of art work and jewellery of which she gave £80 back to the parish as an expression of thanks.  She hopes to come back before Christmas so that she can help you with your Christmas shopping!

Refugees and Asylum Seekers

There will be a collection this weekend for tins of food and meat (not pork).  Please leave your donations in the Narthex.  Further donations on the first Sunday of the month.

Summer Ceilidh   will be held in St Bede’s Church Hall next Saturday at 7.30 pm.  Northumberland Fayre will  supply the musical and dance entertainment.  There will  be a raffle and other entertainment.  Please put your name on the list in the Narthex of what food you intend to bring along. Tickets available from Val O’Callaghan, Margaret Lacy, Pat Gales, Gwen Carr, Alison Johnston, Lawrie or Bernie Clark.. As this event is likely to be very popular it will be best to purchase/order tickets as soon as possible, cost £5.

New Safeguarding Officer

Muriel Middlemiss and Christine Priest have given up the role of being the parish safeguarding officers. I would like to express my sincere thanks to them for the hard work and effort they have given to this important role. Pat Hodgson has kindly accepted my invitation to her to take up this role. My thanks to her for her willingness to take on this responsibility for the parish

CAFOD

CAFOD have informed us that the overall total of the Lenten Collection was a tremendous nine million mounds which means that a further nine million will be matched by the  Government. This has meant that their plans to provide safe water for thousands of people can be significantly scaled up. Thanks to all who contributed.

Special Ministers

Irene Harwood, Chaplain to Wansbeck Hospital is looking for special ministers in the area to be part of a rota that would take Holy Communion to patients in the hospital.  Irene is conscious that some of the patients would like to receive communion on a more regular basis than once a week.  If you would like to help please contact Fr Chris.

St Bede’s FC

I am informed that the first training session went very well. 12 people took part and more promised. Training is on Saturdays at the Westlea pitch
