RCIA  -  Journey of Faith programme starts next Thursday 18th October at 7.00 pm to 8.15 pm.  As we begin the Year of Faith this is an excellent opportunity, especially for those who have never attended a journey of faith programme to learn and reflect on their faith.  John O’Neil will begin each session with a teaching element and I will finish each session with a reflection  on John’s input on what this means on living out the Christian faith.  If there is anyone or you know of anyone who has expressed an interest in knowing more about the Catholic faith please invite them to this. Please note change of day. At least till Christmas , Journey of Faith will now be taking place on Thursdays. Apologies for any inconvenience with this late change

Day of Recollection  on Saturday 27th October at Alnmouth Friary The bus will leave at 9.15 am and return for 4.45 pm.  Please sign list as soon as possible to enable us to arrange transport.  The cost of the day is £15.  The theme of the day is following Christ.

Anniversary Mass  Next Sunday we will celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the opening of our beautiful church.  Of course, we are not simply celebrating a building but we are celebrating our community  The Mass for the day will be the Anniversary of the Dedication of a Church.  After Mass there will be a social and then the architect Vincente Stienlet and the sculptor Fenwick Lawson will speak to us about the church. If you know of people who are no longer living in the parish please bring this day to their attention, especially those who have been baptised, married, or families of those buried from the church during the past twenty years.  At the anniversary Mass we hope to distribute the invitations for the mission to those who kindly volunteered to distribute them  throughout the parish.  We have seventeen volunteers so far which is great but any further offers would be much appreciated.

The parish social group are arranging food after the Mass , further contributions would be most appreciated.  If you would like to offer some food for the social after the anniversary Mass could you please contact Margaret Lacy on 01670 827171 or Pat Gales 01670 821471.

Fr Eddie Gibbons RIP  I have written to Fr John Gibbons, former curate in the parish, to pass on our prayers and support at the sad news of the death of his brother, Fr Eddie.  Fr Eddie was a priest in this deanery when he was Parish Priest at St Paul’s, Cramlington.

Preparation for Mission

The preparation day that took place on Saturday 15th September was very worthwhile and I am very grateful to all those who took part and
who contributed so generously in preparing for the mission week.  The focus of the week will still be celebrating the vocations of us all and of our shared calling to follow Christ from our baptism.  However, it was decided that instead of looking at different callings we have the mission will focus on the significance of baptism and how we this is lived out in our parish community.  So, the first three nights will explore the different symbols used in baptism:  water, oil, light and the white garment and how they inform our understanding of Christ and our discipleship of Him.  The fourth night will explore the different gifts and ministries in the parish community.  The fifth night will focus on priesthood and the Sunday celebration will involve the young people of the parish and the schools.  The notice board in the Narthex will keep you informed about the mission.
One of the groups who are preparing the liturgies for the mission will be meeting on Tuesday at 7.30 pm.  If you would like to take part in the mission liturgies you are very welcome to come to this meeting at the Presbytery.
