Happy New Year
I hope you and your families have had a blessed and joyful Christmas. I would like to wish you and your families every joy and blessing for 2013.As we celebrate the  great feast of the Epiphany, I hope there are many ‘epiphanies’, that is, many signs of God’s grace, for you and your loved ones

Thank-You
The feedback to the Christmas liturgies has been very positive. I am pleased that the Christmas Masses were appreciated by people though I am conscious that this was brought about due the hard work of many of you in the parish. I dare not attempt to list people for fear of forgetting anyone but if you feel you contributed in anyway to the Christmas celebrations in the parish, please know that  your efforts are appreciated by your parish priest. Thanks also for your contributions to the Christmas day collections. I  will be sending a cheque of £959.91 to Housing Justice. I would also like to offer my personal thanks also for cards and generous gifts offered to me personally. I am touched by people’s generosity especially at this time of economic austerity

Poverty Action Sunday February 3rd 4.00pm
Each year Church Action on Poverty North East host an event in the region to mark the end of Poverty Action Week which starts on the last Sunday of January deemed ‘Homeless Sunday’ and finishes on the first Sunday of February called ‘Poverty Action Sunday’. The week is an ecumenical event organised by Christian groups who want to raise awareness and positive  action concerning homelessness and poverty in UK churches. Church Action on Poverty North East have asked Bedlingtonshire Churches Together to host the event this year and it will take place at St Bede’s  on February 3rd. The event will include prayer and reflections, together with input from Ian Lavery MP, local members Citizens Advice and we hope shared experiences from local people. If you would like to help in arranging this event there is a planning meeting in the presbytery this coming Wednesday, January 9th at 7.00pm. For more information please go to: www.actionweek.org.uk

Schools Return
As schools restart this week I would like to wish all our pupils and staff in our schools every success and blessing. As mentioned previously St Bede’s Primary School and St Benet Biscop’s High School will become a federation from February 1st, which means that there will be one governing body for both schools.

I have had an urgent call asking for men’s,  women’s  and children’ s clothing. Stocks are low. Please bring any cloths to the church and they shall be collected by the 5p bus

If you have a relative or friend in Wansbeck Hospital please contact the Catholic chaplain, Irene Harwood, at the hospital  on 01670 521212 or via Fr Stephen Watson on 01670  812200. If your relative or friend is in another hospital in the region please let me know and I will contact the respective chaplain for you.
