Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
I will preaching this weekend at the Wesleyan Reformed Church in Guide Post at their 5.30 pm service as a final part in the pulpit swap. Please keep Christian Unity week in your prayers. Christian unity is essential for the mission of the Church.
Baptism
Today we welcome Amber May McLaughlin into God’s family. We are asked to pray for Amber, her parents, and all preparing for baptism.
Journey in Faith continues on Thursday at 6.00 pm.
Catholic Education
There will be a special collection today for Catholic Education. Please use named envelope in your planned giving box.
Teas/coffees after Sunday Mass
At a meeting of the social committee it was agreed that the provision of teas and coffee after Mass on a Sunday should not be left alone to members of the social committee. It was agreed that we need at least six sets of two who are willing to be on a rota to serve tea and coffee after the Sunday morning Mass. If you would like to help please sign the list in the Narthex with your name and contact number and we hope to start this rota as soon as possible.
There will be a Blood Transfusion Session in the hall on Thursday from 1.30 pm
Reflections from the Prayer and Worship Group
This group discussed as to how the positive spirit and creativity that came from the mission could be developed in the months ahead. It was decided that the Lenten Penitential Service which will he on Sunday March 17th could be an opportunity to have a creative and thoughtful reflection on God’s offer of forgiveness and the reconciliation won for us by Christ, with an opportunity for individual confession afterwards. If anyone would like to be involved in this there will be a meeting on Saturday February 9th from 10.00am to 12 noon
Poverty Action Week
This week is Poverty Action Week where two ecumenical Christian organisations, Housing Justice and Church Action on Poverty seek to highlight the experiences and needs of the homeless and those who experience poverty in some way or other. This Sunday is deemed Homeless Sunday where we are asked to remember and pray for those without a stable home. Next Sunday is Poverty Action Sunday. As mentioned previously our church will be hosting a regional event on behalf of Church Action Poverty North East next Sunday (3rd) at 4.00 pm. Various people will be sharing about the experiences of the poor. The local MP Ian Lavery will also be present and speak at this event.
For details of North of Tyne Winter Warmth Partnership please see poster in Narthex
World Day of Prayer for the Sick

Study Day at Minsteracres
Clergy and Laity are invited to take part in a Study Day, on Reconciliation in the Gospel of St Luke, led by Fr Michael Winstanley, on Thursday 7th February from 10.30 am to 3.15 pm. Cost is £10 per person. I am intending to go to this so can help with transport. Further details on poster in Narthex.
Holocaust Memorial Day
Tuesday is Holocaust Memorial Day when we will remember and pray for all victims of genocide during the last century.
Prayers for Victims of Avalanche
The young people who tragically lost their lives at the avalanche at Glencoe last week had all been students at Newcastle University. One of the victims, Una Finnegan, and one of the survivors, were active members of the Catholic Chaplaincy at Newcastle. As you can imagine the students and chaplains are shocked at these tragic events. Please keep them in your prayers.
