Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

As part of Christian Unity week I would like to offer a warm welcome this weekend to the Rev Heegon Moon, his wife Deborah and family. I am delighted Heegon can join us for the pulpit swap and I am so pleased he is able to give us a sermon at the Vigil Mass.  Heegon and his family come from South Korea.  He is a Methodist Minister for Trinity Church in Bedlington, the Colliery Church in Bedlington Station and Stakeford Methodist Church.

I will preaching at the Wesleyan Reformed Church in Guide Post on 27th January at their 5.30 pm service. Please keep Christian Unity week in your prayers.  Christian unity is essential for the mission of the Church.

Teas/coffees after Sunday Mass  will be served in the church hall. Volunteers are needed to serve teas and coffees.  The hope is we will be able to have a rota for this.  All welcome. If you have recently started coming to St Bede’s you are especially welcome, please introduce yourself to me .

Journey of Faith  continues on Thursday at  6.00 pm. John will be looking at the Sacraments. He will continue exploring the Sacrament of Reconcilation

Needing a hospital chaplain to make a visit?

The chaplains in hospitals can only visit a patient if it is brought to their attention. They cannot look at patient’s records to discover  if you are a Catholic. If you have a relative or friend in Wansbeck Hospital please contact the Catholic chaplain, Irene Harwood, at the hospital  on 01670 521212 or via Fr Stephen Watson on 01670  812200. If your relative or friend is in another hospital in the region please let me know and I will contact the respective chaplain for you.

Poverty Action Sunday 3rd February, 4.00 pm

Each year Church Action on Poverty North East host an event in the region to mark the end of Poverty Action Week which starts on the last Sunday of January which is known as ‘Homeless Sunday’ and finishes on the first Sunday of February which is called ‘Poverty Action Sunday’. The week is an ecumenical event organised by Christian groups who want to raise awareness and positive  action concerning homelessness and poverty in UK churches. Church Action on Poverty North East have asked Bedlingtonshire Churches Together to host the event this year and it will take place at St Bede’s  on February 3rd. The event will include prayer and reflections from local people, Citizens Advice, the Matthew Project and Ian Lavery MP.

The theme for this year is ‘Who can cast the first stone?’ which seeks to challenge the commonly held notion that people are poor due to their own fault. If you would like to be  involved with this event there  is a final meeting to plan the event on Wednesday 23rd January here at the presbytery at 7.00pm
