Confirmations  On Friday 3rd May at 7.00 pm we welcome Bishop Seamus to the parish.  He will be confirming eleven of our parishioners.  This is very much a parish celebration and would encourage as many of you as possible to join in the celebration and support our candidates.  They have been a great group to work with.  Their sense of faith and level of commitment has been excellent.  There will be a reception in the hall afterwards to which you are all welcome.  The social committee are arranging food, if you would like to donate some food for this please see the form in the Narthex. Please keep our candidates in our prayers.

The New Papal Motto  Pope Francis has chosen the motto "Miserando atque eligendo", meaning lowly but chosen; literally in Latin 'by having mercy, by choosing him'.
The motto is one the Pope had already chosen as Bishop. It is taken from the homilies of our parish patron St. Bede on Saint Matthew's Gospel relating to his vocation:"Jesus saw the tax collector and by having mercy chose him as an Apostle saying to him : Follow me."  It is great to see our parish patron influencing the new Papacy.

Baptism  Today we welcome Jack Brown into God’s family.  We are asked to pray for Jack, his family, and all preparing for baptism.

CAFOD Syrian Refugees Appeal  CAFOD have opened an emergency appeal for the situation in Syria which is getting worse by the day. The number of refugees who are escaping the country and in need of help are increasing.  There will be a retiring collection that will be left open for the next two weeks.

The collection for Sick & Retired Priests closes this weekend.

Refugee/Asylum Seekers There will be a collection next weekend for tins of food (not pork) for refugee and asylum seekers.  Please leave in Narthex.

Meeting of local Churches Together with Ian Lavery MP  On Friday 10th May the Churches Together have one of their regular meetings with our MP Ian Lavery.  If there are any issues you would like to be raised in that meeting please contact me or  the two other representatives of Churches Together Moira Quinn or Alison Johnston,  We would be particularly interested if anyone has been effected by any of the welfare reforms that came into operation this month.

First Holy Communion Liturgy  Today we have our final liturgy for our first Holy communion candidates before they receive their First Holy Communion in June.  The liturgy is called ‘In memory of me’.  Please continue to pray for our candidates.

Northern Brethren Fund  As you will know the Northern Brethren Fund is a charity to help retired and sick priests in the diocese.  We had a retiring collection recently, which closes today,  The Fund has supplied us with Standing Order forms which are in the Narthex for anyone who would like to give a regular contribution to this charity.

County Council and Parish Elections  will take place in the hall on Thursday, from 7.00 am to 10.00 pm.

Chernobyl Children Life Line  This charity offers holidays for children by the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station accident.  Ten children will be staying in Northumberland for the month of June, with two of them spending a fortnight with some of our parishioners, Joe and Amanda Gallagher.  The children’s living standards are very poor.  They come with few clothes so any decent second hand clothes for both boys and girls for 9012 year olds would be much appreciated.  They will be distributed to the children for them to take back home.  They can be left in the Narthex or at the Moor Farm shop.

Burmese Fundraising Event on Saturday 11th May, 7.00 pm, St Charles Parish Centre, Gosforth.  Tickets £7 adults, £3 children, raffle musicians, please bring own drinks and snacks.
