Confirmations

On Friday we had a moving and wonderful celebration of Confirmation for our eleven candidates. The responsible and thoughtful manner the candidates have shown during the celebration has been a blessing for those of us working with them. They are a credit to their families, our parish and their respective schools. I do hope that in receiving the  power of the Holy spirit that their relationship to Christ will deepen and that they will be a foundation for developing and encouraging other young people in our parish to develop their faith in Christ.

When the Bishop saw the wonderful spread of food that the parish had provided he said to me ‘ My, you get well fed here!’ So my thanks to the social committee for once again  organising fantastic hospitality and I am very grateful to all who contributed in providing food and drinks. Thanks also to all those who also helped to make sure that the confirmation celebrations went so well and was so appreciated by the candidates and their families. My final set of thanks to the Confirmation catechists– Virginia Craig, Joe Gallagher and Clare Mitchell. Not only were they generous with their time but between them provided a great set of gifts that gave a such an important contribution to the preparation sessions. Finally, congratulations to our eleven parishioner who are now, through this sacrament, fully part of the Church. I do hope and pray you will know the grace and love of Christ and show it  within our community and beyond it to the wider world, now and throughout your life

Needing a hospital chaplain to make a visit?

The chaplains in hospitals can only visit a patient if it is brought to their attention. They cannot look at patient’s records to discover  if you are a Catholic. If you have a relative or friend in Wansbeck Hospital please contact the Catholic chaplain, Irene Harwood, at the hospital  on 01670 521212 or via Fr Stephen Watson on 01670  812200. If your relative or friend is in another hospital in the region please let me know and I will contact the respective chaplain for you.

£700 has been banked for the Mill Hill Missions  from the red boxes.  Many thanks.

Meeting of local Churches Together with Ian Lavery MP

On Friday 10th May the Churches Together have one of their regular meetings with our MP Ian Lavery.  If there are any issues you would like to be raised in that meeting please contact me or  the two other representatives of Churches Together Moira Quinn or Alison Johnston,  We would be particularly interested if anyone has been effected by any of the welfare reforms that came into operation this month.

Chernobyl Children Life Line

This charity offers holidays for children by the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station accident.  Ten children will be staying in Northumberland for the month of June, with two of them spending a fortnight with some of our parishioners, Joe and Amanda Gallagher.  The children’s living standards are very poor.  They come with few clothes so any decent second hand clothes for both boys and girls for 9 to12 year olds would be much appreciated.  They will be distributed to the children for them to take back home.  They can be left in the Narthex or at the Moor Farm shop.
