Welcome Back Sunday  Next Sunday is Pentecost and is designated by the diocese as ‘Welcome back’ Sunday.  As the Bishop said in his pastoral letter two weeks ago that if you are aware of anyone who has drifted from the church, or a non Catholic whom you would think would be interested please invite them to Mass next weekend.
 
World Communications Day   A second collection will be taken today for World Communications.  Please use your white envelopes.
 
CAFOD Syrian Refugees Appeal  A cheque has been sent for £123.93.  Thank you for your support.
 
Ministers of Eucharist  First of all, just a reminder that the renewal of promised will be at the Masses for Corpus Christi week-end, June 1st and 2nd. Also I would like a meeting of special ministers who already or would be willing to take communion to the sick and housebound or lead Services of Communion when a priest will be absent, I will have this meeting on what would have been Corpus Christi Thursday, 30th May   in the hall at 7.00 pm.
 
Confirmation  For those who did not see the bulletin last week I would like to pass on my congratulations to all who confirmed on May 3rd and express all my thanks to those who worked hard that it was such a joyous and inspiring occasion. A note to our eleven new confirmed parishioners,  that there will be a pizza party on May 14th at 7pm in the presbytery to celebrate as a group your Confirmation and to carry on some the discussions we had at the day of recollection in Jarrow
 
Year of Faith Pilgrimages on Saturday 18th May. The next mini pilgrimage for the Year of Faith, led by Bishop Seamus, will be in honour of our patron St Bede and St Benet Biscop.  The day will start will Mass at St Bede’s Church, Jarrow, at 10.00 am which will be followed by a walk, or lift if needed, to Bede’s World and St Paul’s Monastery. The diocese is encouraging as many parishes and schools under the patronage of Ss Bede and Benet Biscop to take part in this day.
 
St Bede’s Day –Mass and Parish BBQ  St Bede’s Day is Saturday 25th May. The Vigil Mass will be for our Parish solemnity. This will be followed by a BBQ in the garden and Presbytery. Tickets are £5 and are available from members of the social committee. All are welcome.
 Days of Recollection:
· On Saturday June 1st from 11am to 3pm Mrs Lesley Twomney who has an interest in mediaeval Marian devotion will co-lead a day of reflection with me on Mary focusing on the Annunciation and Assumption. Please bring a packed lunch
 
· On June 12 at 7pm  at St Aidan’s Ashington,  there will be an evening of reflection for the deanery  called ‘Rehallowing the Land, reflecting on the legacy of the Northern Saints
 
· Finally for your diaries the annual parish day of recollection will be at Alnmouth, Saturday, 12th October. 9.30-5pm. I will lead some reflections on John’s Gospel in the light of the course I will be taking part in France this September on this gospel  lead by the founder of L’Arche, Jean Vanier- I am very excited!
 
Chernobyl Children Life Line   This charity offers holidays for children by the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station accident.  Ten children will be staying in Northumberland for the month of June, with two of them spending a fortnight with some of our parishioners, Joe and Amanda Gallagher.  The children’s living standards are very poor.  They come with few clothes so any decent second hand clothes for both boys and girls for 9 to12 year olds would be much appreciated.  They will be distributed to the children for them to take back home.  They can be left in the Narthex or at the Moor Farm shop.
 
Christian Aid Event:  music and final night of the Bite Back at Hunger Tour, 15th May, 7.30 pm at St Bede’s.  Further details on poster in Narthex.
 
Near Restful Waters  -  Day for Carers  During Carers’ Week, there will be three days around the diocese for Carers to come together for a time of rest and reflection.
Wednesday 12th June, St Joseph’s Norton (£15 to include lunch)
Thursday 13th June, Minsteracres, £30 to include three course meal
Saturday 15th June, Holy name Jesmond (£15 to include lunch)
 
Diocesan Festival—”Opening the Doors of Faith  An opportunity for adults and young people to explore and celebrate our Year of Faith.
Saturday 29th June and Sunday 30th June, Youth Village, Consett, £10 per person (includes both days) under 18s go free.  Please book by 24th May.
