Our Patronal Feast - St Bede’s Day

This weekend we celebrate our patron, St Bede.  If we needed any reminder as to how significant this local saint is to the Universal Church then we have been given a wonderful one  with Pope Francis using a phrase from a sermon of St Bede for the motto for his coat of arms, the motto being .. ‘lowly but chosen’.  St Bede had a tremendous openness to all areas of knowledge but all held together through the person of Christ.  This perspective to be open to all things and yet focused on Christ is  an example of faith that is relevant to faith at our present time.  We are not just celebrating our patron but celebrating our parish and we commend everyone in our parish and all that we seek to do as a faith community to the intercession of St Bede.  Happy Feast Day.

Baptism

Today we welcome John Daniel Winthorpe into God’s family in baptism.  We are asked to pray for John, his family, and all preparing for baptism.

Ministers of Eucharist

First of all, just a reminder that the renewal of promised will be at the Masses for Corpus Christi week-end, 1st June  and 2nd. Also I would like a meeting of special ministers who already or would be willing to take communion to the sick and housebound or lead Services of Communion when a priest will be absent, I will have this meeting on what would have been Corpus Christi Thursday, 30th May in the hall at 7.00 pm.

Restructuring of Deanery  Date for your diary

It would be important to have an open meeting of the parish to  explore what the restructuring of the deanery will mean for St Bede’s. This will take place on Sunday 9th June after 10.00 am Mass. I would also like to discuss how lay people will need to be more involved when there is not a full time priest in the parish

Parish Council

There will be a meeting of the parish council on 3rd June.  Please notify me or any members of the parish council if there is anything to want to be discussed.

Young People in the Parish  The confirmation programme ended with a delightful pizza evening last Tuesday.  My thanks to Margaret Lacy for providing all the necessary for the young people to make pizzas.  It was a nice chaos.  After we had eaten as much pizza as we could we had a

discussion as to the role of young people in the parish.  There was a number of ideas discussed, one being that we perhaps could have a young person’s parish council in the parish.  It was agreed that representatives of this group will meet with the parish council at the next meeting to discuss and explore some of their ideas. If any other young people of the parish would like to be involved in this please let us know.
