Warm Welcome to Visitors

On behalf of the parish I would like to extend a warm welcome to  any visitors who have joined us for our Masses this weekend.  We hope you feel at home with us while you are away on holiday.  If you are here for the 10.00 am Mass please know that tea/coffee is available in the hall afterwards and you would be very welcome to join us and please feel free to introduce yourself to Fr Chris who is the parish priest.

Feast of the Assumption

Thursday is the Feast of the Assumption.  The Church sees the Assumption of Our Lady as a pattern for the church and all its members, since where she has gone in sharing in God’s life we are called to follow. It is a Holyday of Obligation. Masses will be celebrated at 7.00 pm (Vigil) and 10.00 am on Thursday morning.

Baptism

Today we welcome Hana McColgan into God’s family in baptism.  We are asked to pray for Hana, her family, and all preparing for baptism.

Journey of Faith

The journey of faith programme will be starting again in the autumn. If you know of anyone who would like to  become a Catholic could you please let them know about this programme and ask them to contact me I have already had some enquiries from non-Catholics who have begun to worship here at St Bede’s, this has been lovely to see.

Church Cleaning

Any extra volunteers are always appreciated.  One of our regular volunteers is not well at the present time so extra help would be appreciated.

Taking Communion to the sick and housebound

My thanks to those special ministers who have volunteered to take holy communion to the sick and housebound.  You will soon receive a note informing which people I would like you to visit.  For those who have not done this before I am happy to go through the service of administering communion to parishioners at home.  I will be available after Masses on the weekend of 24/25th August to go through the rite but happy to arrange another time if you are away that weekend.

There will be a Blood Transfusion session in the hall on Thursday.

Open House  is taking a well-earned break and will be re-opening on 3rd September.

Caring for Dementia Sufferers and their Carers

As I have gone around the parish I have been struck by how during informal conversations with parishioners that they  or their loved ones, are in the early stages of some form of dementia.  I appreciate how this raises a number of issues and concerns not only for the dementia sufferer but for their loved ones.  I am wondering whether there would be any value if there was a support group established for dementia sufferers and their carers.  Please let me know if you would be interested  in supporting or being a member of such a group.

Christ in the World Group

The next meeting of Christ in the World group will be on Friday 6th September at 7.00 pm.  The meeting will be lead by John Dowling who is a parishioner of Sacred Heart, North Gosforth, and the regional co-ordinator of Campaign Against the Arms Trade (CAAT).  John will be speaking about CAAT’s attempt to have the arms trade ultimately abolished.  Some may think it is impossible goal but I guess they said the same concerning the slave trade.

St Bede’s FC

Training has already started for next season. This will be the second season for the club. The club may not be at the same standard as Bayern Munich or Barcelona but it has provided the opportunity for a group of young men ( some not that young!) with a focus on a Saturday morning and an opportunity to make new friends within the context of Christian faith that is made possible by the existence of the North East Christian League. I very much wish to commend Dominic Molloy and all those who have help to get the club established.. If you or anyone you know you think may be interested in playing for the team please contact Dominic Molloy on 07725039180  The first home game is 21st August at Gallagher Park.  Kick off at 6.30 pm.

Waiting for Exam Results

Prayer and best wishes for all those students, their parents and grandparents who are waiting for important exam results  over the next two weeks
