Warm Welcome to Visitors

On behalf of the parish I would like to extend a warm welcome to  any visitors who have joined us for our Masses this weekend.  We hope you feel at home with us while you are away on holiday.  If you are here for the 10.00 am Mass please know that tea/coffee is available in the hall afterwards and you would be very welcome to join us and please feel free to introduce yourself to Fr Chris who is the parish priest.

 

First Holy Communion Programme 2013-14

There will be an introductory meeting for parents who wish their children to make their First Holy Communion next year on Thursday 12th September at 3.15pm at St Bede’s Primary School. If you have not already done so please inform me or Mrs Worrall in the school that you wish your child to take part.

 

Baptism

Today we welcome Lucas Patrick Jordan into God’s family in baptism.  We are asked to pray for Lucas, his family, and all preparing for baptism.

Journey of Faith

 

The journey of faith programme will be starting again in the autumn. If you know of anyone who would like to  become a Catholic could you please let them know about this programme and ask them to contact me. The programme will be led by our parishioner Mr John O’Neill.  We hope to start the programme on Wednesday 11th September at 7.00 pm with the sessions taking place on a Wednesday evening.

 

Second Collection

There will be a second collection next weekend for Racial Justice.  Please use the named white envelopes from your box.

 

Refugee/Asylum Seekers

There will be a collection today for tins of food (not pork) for refugee and asylum seekers.  Please leave in Narthex. Next collection first Sunday of the month

 

Annual Ecumenical Advent Service

 

This annual service takes place on the first Sunday of Advent which this year will be 1st December at 4.00 pm.  This year the carol service will be hosted by our parish.  This means it will be our responsibility to prepare a service though we will be able to use the talents and gifts of other members of churches together.  I think this is an opportunity, as we did in the mission last year, to be creative and imaginative in celebrating this service. I would like to have an initial meeting for anyone who would be  interested to be involved on next Saturday  at 2.00 pm. I think this is also an opportunity for our young people to use their gifts and talents for this event.

Open House resumes on this Tuesday September 3rd at  6.00pm. New members and volunteers are always welcome  

 

Blood Transfusion Session

 

There will be a blood transfusion session in the hall on Wednesday.

 

Christ in the World Group

 

The next meeting of Christ in the World group will be on Friday at 7.00 pm.  The meeting will be lead by John Dowling who is a parishioner of Sacred Heart, North Gosforth, and the regional co-ordinator of Campaign Against the Arms Trade (CAAT). 

 

Caring for Dementia Sufferers and their Carers

 

My thanks to those who have expressed an interest in supporting dementia sufferers and their carers.  I have had three offers of help which is lovely to have had.  I have yet to have been approached by anyone who is suffering from dementia, or is caring for someone with dementia. If you think the parish could support you at this time please let me know. 

 

Day Recollection

The annual parish Day of Recollection will be on Saturday October 12th, leaving at 9.15am and returning at 4.45pm. This year there will be reflections on John’ s Gospel. Cost £15. Please sign list in the narthex

 

New Academic Year

 

As the schools return next week I would like to wish all involved in education every blessing and success for the new academic year. We hope all pupils and staff are rested and ready to face the opportunities and challenges of the new year We especially keep in our prayers all the staff and pupils of St Bede’s and St Benet Biscop Schools in our prayers. St Bede’s Primary school will be joining us for the 10.00am Mass this Thursday

 

Gift Aid

 

There are  envelopes in the Narthex addressed individually (and in alphabetical order) to all  who Gift Aid their offertory donations, from the diocesan finance office.  Please ensure you take yours today.
