Feast of St Bede

Next weekend we celebrate our patronal feast as we remember St Bede.  Both Masses next weekend will be  a celebration of St Bede and of our parish community, so I would encourage as many of you as possible to come to  Mass next weekend to celebrate our  Patron and celebrate our parish.

Welcome Back Sunday

Our annual Welcome Back Sunday will take place on Pentecost Sunday 8th June.  It is an opportunity for us to reach out to those on the fringes of the church and gently invite them to return.  How welcoming are we as a community?  To help us to undertake this challenge as a parish, there is a preparation morning in St Aloysius, Hebburn on 24th May, 10.00 to 1.00 pm.  Hopefully every parish will be represented to collect invitation cards to use in your parish.  Please see poster in Narthex.   This weekend we will have a pastoral letter from Bishop Seamus about  Welcome Back Sunday.

Pentecost Service

This will be taking place on Pentecost Sunday, 8th June.  This will be an ecumenical service led by our young people, the format of the service will be similar to the service we had at Advent with a combination of readings, music, drama and symbols to celebrate Pentecost.  This event can be seen as a part of Welcome Back Sunday as please feel free to invite people who you think might be interested to this event as well.

Joint Choir Rehearsals will take place at Trinity Church on 20th May, 7.15 to 8.00 pm; 27th May, 11.00 am and 3rd June, 7.15 to 8.00 pm.

Safe Families for Children

If you interested in being involved with this programme please let me know.  David Gillam is hoping to have a meeting in the parish of those who are interested to take part in this initiative.

Journey of Faith

Those who took part in the Journey of Faith programme have expressed an interest to carrying on with the discussions.  The first of these meeting will be this Wednesday at 7.00 pm.  There will also be further meeting on 25th June 23rd July at 7.00 pm.

Baptism

The next set of baptismal classes will be starting on 19th June.

Youth Mission to St Benet’s

· We will say the prayer at the end of each weekend Mass from now till the start of the mission  in December.

· It agreed that the parishes would design banners for the mission so on Sunday 13th July at 1.00pm people are invited to take part in a picnic at St Paul First school in Alnwick to be followed by designing and making banners based on the words of the Mission Prayer. All are welcome

· The next deanery mission group meeting with be Thursday 19 June at 7.00pm at St Aidan’s First School

Sick & Retired Priests

The collection for sick and retired priests closes next weekend.

Deanery Mass for Healing

There will a Mass for healing at St Aidan’s, Ashington on Wednesday at 7.00 pm with anointing of the sick or laying on of hands. There will also be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from 6.00 to 7.00 pm, with an opportunity for the sacrament of reconciliation.

Transport for Schools

As you may know the County Council are considering not paying for transport for pupils to attend schools in the county.  This will have a  huge impact on St Benet‘s High School.  Some families who wish their children to attend St Benet’s may not be able to afford this which will be a great pity.  There is a sheet informing you as to how you can take part in the consultation about school transport.  If you would like to be involved please take the sheet marked School Transport which will be in the Narthex.

St Bede’s Nursery

St Bede’s Primary School would welcome enquires with regard to nursery places for children. Should anyone wish to have a look around the nursery please contact Mrs Therese Worrall Deputy Headteacher on 01670 822389 or alternately contact Mrs Oakley at school for an application form.

St Hilda’s Diocesan Resource Centre

A new diocesan resource centre is being set up in the old presbytery in the grounds of St Cuthbert’s House.  If you have any books DVDs on spirituality and theology that you would like to donate to the centre please hand them to me.
