The fourth Sunday of Easter is known as Good Shepherd Sunday.  We pray for all people who are discerning God’s call  for them in their life and we are asked to pray for vocation to the priesthood and religious life.

Today we will have our final liturgy before the children make their First Holy Communion next month.  The theme of the liturgy is ’In Memory of Me’.

This weekend we welcome Mr David Gillam, representative for Safe Families for Children.. He will  speak at both Masses about their  work.  Please look at literature in Narthex.

Journey of Faith

Those who took part in the Journey of Faith programme have expressed an interest to carrying on with the discussions. As we have decided that there will be meetings on 21st May, 25th June 23rd July at 7.00 pm. The topics have yet to be confirmed but I will let you know in due course

Christ in the World

The next meeting of the group on Friday at 7.00 pm will be discussing the place of Mary, Mother of Jesus in the Church.

Young People in the Parish

Four of our young parishioners attended ‘The Source’ at the Cathedral on Wednesday. They found this lively  and creative event  enjoyable and  very different to the week-end Mass. The next event is on October 1st

Sick & Retired Priests

The collection for sick and retired priests remains open for private or individual donations.

Deanery Mass for Healing
There will a Mass for healing at St Aidan’s, Ashington on Wednesday 21st May at 7.00 pm with anointing of the sick or laying on of hands. There will also be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from 6.00 to 7.00 pm, with an opportunity for the sacrament of reconciliation.

Transport for Schools
As you may know the County Council are considering not paying for transport for pupils to attend schools in the county.  This will have a  huge impact on St Benet ‘s High School.  Some families who wish their children to attend St Benet’s may not be able to afford this which will be a great pity.  Please contact your respective local councillor and MP to express your concern.

Diocesan Festival
Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 June 2014 (the Feast of Corpus Christi) Youth Village, Consett.  Speakers Bill Huebsch coming from the United States and Karen Kilby, the new Bede Professor of Theology,  The festival will be a great time to reflect on how the 'Joy of the Gospel' enables us to (in the words of St Augustine) "behold what we are" in the Body of Christ – and to fulfil our responsibility to "become what we receive": the Body of Christ broken for the world.

A season of joy…. Handling life’s challenges
At St Robert’s, Morpeth on Thursday 22nd May  -  international Mime Artist Steve Murray is attending to deliver a very special session on self-image and self-esteem. Steve’s mimes are designed to inspire, encourage and challenge the heart for those who have faith and for those who are seeking.’ He will perform and will answer questions following the session.  If you would like to view some of Steve’s performances, please see his website: www.beholdmimeministry.org and video clips are on YouTube.
