The Body and Blood of Christ

Today we celebrate the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ.  We give thanks to God for the gifts of the Eucharist to the life of the church.  This is the primary gift that enables us to enter into the mystery of the Trinity which we celebrated last weekend.  Our special ministers will renew their promises at Masses this weekend.

First Holy Communion
The celebrations went very well and were appreciated by all who took part.  My sincere thanks to all who contributed to the day.  Sacristans, musicians, those who served teas and coffees, those who prepared the hall, staff from the school, and especially to Mary Yarrow for her work in preparing the children for this special day.  We continue to pray for the children.

The final First Holy Communion liturgy will be next weekend at 10.00 am Mass.  The theme is ‘Sending Forth’.

First Holy Communion 2015/16
Having consulted the school and the parish council I have come to the decision that First Holy Communion programme will take place for children of Year 4  and not Year 3 as has been the current practice.  This means that there will not be a formal First Holy Communion in the parish next year, although if there art any children in Years 4 or above who have yet to make their First Holy Communion I would still like them to contact me.  The next  First Holy Communion will begin in September 2015 with First Holy Communions being in June 2016.

Parish Finances
At Masses next weekend representatives of the parish finance committee will give a brief presentation of the parish accounts for 2013/2014.

Second Collection
There will be a second collection next weekend for the feast of Ss Peter and Paul.  Please use your white envelopes  from your box.

Parish Council

As mentioned last week the parish council decided to explore the possibility of bringing back the annual Christmas fayre.  If you would like to be involved in organising this please contact me.

Journey of Faith
The second of the post-Easter meeting will be taking place on Wednesday (25th) at 7.00 pm.

Baptism
The second session of the baptismal course will be on Thursday (26th)  at 7.00 pm.

Christ in the World
The next meeting will be Friday (27th) at 7.00 pm. It will be an open forum for anyone to bring items for discussion.

Parish Barbecue
The social committee are organising a parish barbecue for Saturday 5th July from 7.30 pm. Tickets are available from members of the social committee. Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for children. I would encourage as many of you as possible to take part .  I appreciate that we are dependent on British weather but previous parish barbecues have been seen to be as an enjoyable success.

Reflective Prayer at St Bede’s School
St Bede’s would like to offer a warm welcome to any parishioners who may want to join the school in their weekly reflective prayer on a Monday morning at 9.00 am in the school hall. This time allows all participants the opportunity to begin the week with a spiritually uplifting reflection on the weekly readings. The whole school community use it as their spiritual focus  for the week.

Youth Mission to St Benet’s
It agreed that the parishes would design banners for the mission so on Sunday 13th July at 1.00pm people are invited to take part in a picnic at St Paul First school in Alnwick to be followed by designing and making banners based on the words of the Mission Prayer. All are welcome

The mission prayer continues to be said at the end of weekend Masses.  If I remember!

Day of Recollection
The autumn  day of recollection has been booked for Saturday 4th October, leaving Bedlington at 9.15 am returning at 5.00 pm,.  This is the feast day of St Francis so we will be celebrating his feast with the Franciscans which will be a great privilege.
