Return to Ordinary Time
As you will see for the first time in four month’s the Altar cloths and vestments are green to indicate we are in Ordinary time.  This phrase is not particularly helpful as if it gives the impression that these Sundays are not as important as the others but in Ordinary Sunday’s we are celebrating the whole of the mystery of our salvation that we celebrate from Advent to the Feast of the Sacred Heart.

Baptism
This weekend we have the second of our joint celebrations of baptism.  On Saturday we welcomed into the church Declan Orkney and Thomas Gladwin and today we will celebrate the baptisms of Aimee Rose Wiles and Sofia Nancy Buckland.  We pray for Declan, Thomas  Aimee, and Sofia, their families, and all preparing for baptism.

The next baptism preparation sessions will begin on 2nd October.

First Holy Communion 2015/16
Having consulted the school and the parish council I have come to the decision that First Holy Communion programme will take place for children of Year 4  and not Year 3 as has been the current practice.  This means that there will not be a formal First Holy Communion in the parish next year, although if there art any children in Years 4 or above who have yet to make their First Holy Communion I would still like them to contact me.  The next  First Holy Communion will begin in September 2015 with First Holy Communions being in June 2016.

Youth Mission to St Benet’s
The next event in preparation for this will be next Sunday at 1.00 pm at St Paul First school in Alnwick.  It will start with a picnic, hopefully outdoors, to be followed by designing and making banners based on the words of the Mission Prayer. If people need lifts to this event please let me know. All are welcome.

The mission prayer continues to be said at the end of weekend Masses.  If I remember!

Refugee/Asylum Seekers
There will be a collection this weekend for tins of food (not pork) for refugee and asylum seekers.  Please leave in Narthex.  Next collection first Sunday of the month

Married Priests:  has the time come?

Assisted Dying Bill - Please write to a member of the House of Lords    The Bill to legalise "assisted dying"  - meaning assisted suicide - will be debated in the House of Lords on 18th July 2014. There will be a free vote because it is not government legislation. If passed, this Bill would place vulnerable people at serious risk. Especially if you have direct experience of caring for a dying person, either as a family member or as a health or social care professional, please write before 18th July to a Peer to tell them your views.  For more information, including details of how to write to a Peer, please visit www.catholicchurch.org.uk/assisted-dying-bill  IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO WRITE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND CERTAINLY BEFORE 18TH JULY.  I have written to a member of the House of Lords a copy of that letter will be on the notice board for you to see what are the key arguments.
