Welcome
I am conscious at this time of year of visitors to the parish who are on holiday. If you are visiting us you are very welcome. We hope you are having a pleasant time visiting the area. Tea and coffee is served after 10.00 am on Sunday morning in the parish hall. You will be very welcome to join us there.
Day of Prayer for Iraq
The Conference of Bishops of England and Wales have asked today will be a Day of Prayer for the crises in Iraq. We pray for a long lasting peace in the region and the end of al of violence and persecution. CAFOD are holding an Emergency Appeal for this crisis and for the situations in Libya, Southern Sudan and Gaza
Parish Day of Recollection
The autumn day of recollection will be on Saturday 4th October leaving at 9.15 am returning at 5.00 pm. The theme of the day will be Creation and Spirituality. Please sign the sheet in the Narthex if you would like to take part in this day.
Parish Council
The next meeting of the Parish Council will be on Monday September 8th at 7.00pm. Please contact me or any other member of the Council if you want any item to be discussed.
Open House
The Open House will resume on Tuesday 2nd of September at 6.00pm. New members and new volunteers would be very welcome
Schools Return
Our prayer and best wishes to all pupils and staff of St Bede’s Primary and St Benet’s High School as they begin a new academic year this week. We hope it is a blessed and fruitful year for all involved in the life of our schools. Particular best wishes and prayer to Miss Helen Hunt who begins her new appointment as chaplain to both schools.
Christ in the World Group
The next meeting of the Group will be on Friday 5th September at 7.00pm. We will be exploring the lives of Saints who have inspired us.
Refugee & Asylum Seekers
There will be a collection next weekend for tins of food (not pork) for refugee and asylum seekers. Please leave in Narthex.
Journey of Faith Programme
The Journey of Faith Programme will resume on Wednesday September 24th . This year the sessions will be from 6.60-7.30pm. They will take place in the presbytery. John O’Neill has generously lead the programme over the last three years . John has asked not to lead the programme this year so it will be lead by yours truly! I would like to thanks John for the commitment and great knowledge he has brought to all of us involved in the Journey of Faith sessions over the last three years Parishioners have also asked if the course is available to those who are already Catholics. The answer is very much ‘yes’.
Youth Mission
We continue to say the youth prayer at the end of Mass. Copies of the prayer are in the Narthex.
Day of Recollection for Special Ministers
A Day of Recollection is being held for all Eucharistic Ministers in the Deanery on Saturday September 20th from 10.30am to 3.00pm at St Aidan R.C. Church, Ashington. The day will be lead by the Diocesan Coordinator for Spiritual Formation Kathryn Turner. Please confirm you attendance by contacting St Aidan on 01670 812200
Deanery Mass For Healing
There will be a deanery Mass for Healing at St Pauls Church, Percy Street, Alnwick on Wednesday 17th September, at 7.00 pm with anointing of the sick of laying on of hands. There will be Exposition of the blessed sacrament with an opportunity of reconciliation before hand from 6.00 pm.
Spiritus
is an Ecumenical Festival of Spirituality and Prayer that will be taking place at Durham Cathedral this Saturday September 6th from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm. There will be over thirty workshops available on different types of spirituality and prayer, with the opportunity to take part in three of them. For more details go to:
