The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

I was warmly welcomed by Stakeford Methodist Church.  They were supportive and appreciative of my contribution.  I perceived a community that is prayerful and united with far better singing voices than we have!

Baptism

Today we welcome Josh Anthony McCann into our church family as he christened at noon today.  We pray for Joshua and his family and all preparing for baptism.

Second Collection

There will be a second collection today for Catholic Education.  Please use the white envelopes from your planned giving boxes.

Journey of Faith on Wednesday at 6.30 pm. We will explore the sacraments with particular emphasis on the Sacrament of Initiation.

Refugee/Asylum Seekers

There will be a collection today for tins of food (not pork) for refugee and asylum seekers.  Please leave in Narthex.  Next collection first Sunday of the month.

Parish email address

We are having problems getting to the parish email account.  At least for the time being if you wish to contact me by email please use:       bedebedlington@live.co.uk

Parish Confirmations

The first session of the confirmation preparation session will begin this Thursday at 7.45 pm.  I would like as many of those confirmed two years ago to also be present for them to share their experience of preparing and celebrating the sacrament of confirmation.  If any young person in Year 9 or 10 of St Benet Biscop please contact me as soon as possible.

World Youth Day

There will be a meeting after 10.00 am Mass today for anyone interested in taking part in World Youth Day in Krakow, August 2016.

Moving Forward In Hope

On the weekend of 14/15th February Fr Jim O’Keefe who is the priest in the diocese who is facilitating the moving in hope process, will be coming to both Masses to share with you the purpose and aims of this process.  I think it is of the utmost importance that as many as the parishioners as possible hear what Fr O’Keefe has to say.  I sense he has the clearest perception in the diocese of what we are seeking to achieve in this process.  So if you wish to know how this process applies to you and our parish please do what you can to be at St Bede’s that weekend.

Father O’Keefe has expressed a willingness to meet some of our young parishioners after the 10.00 am Mass.  I would encourage as many of our young people to take this opportunity to express their view point.

Christ in the World Group

We have decided that for our next few meetings we will explore themes in Catholic social teaching and their relevance for the General Election.  The next meeting will be on Friday 13th February at 7.00 pm.

Lenten Day of Recollection

I have booked Alnmouth Friary for a day of recollection on Saturday 7th March.  We will leave at 9.15 am and return  for 5.00 pm.  We will focus on some of the scripture readings given for Holy Week. All are welcome.

Youth Mission in St Benet’s

Last weekend I took part in the follow up session to the youth mission.  There were a lot of ideas and energy expressed by the young people as to how we move forward.  The hope is that as a deanery our young people will be able to make an impact.  One priority is to encourage young people to come to The Source.  The next meeting will be on Wednesday 4th February at St Mary’s Cathedral starting at 6.30 pm.

St Hilda’s Diocesan Resource Centre

This will be opening on Monday 2nd February. Books, Dvds and other resources for spirituality and theology can be taken on loan. The Centre is next to the Diocesan offices on the West Road, Newcastle
