Moving Forward In Hope
My thanks to all who were able to be present last weekend and hear Fr Jim O’Keefe explain the process. Fr Jim enjoyed being with us and sensed that people were being attentive and listening to what he was saying. The fact that there will be just 50 priests working in the diocese in 15 years time indicated the scale of the change that will need to take place. I share his view that this is an opportunity for us to deepen our discipleship, and as a diocese and as a parish, to flourish as a Christian community of faith. It is worth keeping in mind those five key words that he mentioned: Prayer, Discipleship, Viable, Flourishing, Diocese. We will say the prayer for this process at the end of each Mass at the weekend Masses. Copies of the prayer are in the Narthex.
I would also like to express my thanks to the young people who stayed behind the 10.00 am Mass to talk to Fr Jim. He said he was excited and found it exciting in what they had to say. I am very grateful to the great witness they give.
LENT
We continue our annual Lenten journey which began on Wednesday. Lent is an opportunity to renew and deepen our relationship with God and to discern his call for us at the present time. During Lent the following will be taking place:
· Tuesday’s, (from 10th March). The parish Mass will be in St Benet Biscop’s school chapel at 12.30 pm.
· Thursday’s Ecumenical Lenten lunches at here St Bede’s from 12 noon with prayer at 12.45 pm.

The Rite of Election at the Cathedral. Please continue to pray for them as they prepare to join us at Easter.

CAFOD Family Fast Day is on Friday . Envelopes are available in the Narthex.
Refugee/Asylum Seekers
There will be a collection next weekend for tins of food (not pork) for refugee and asylum seekers. Please leave in Narthex.
Matthew Project
Giving to those in need is part of our Lenten practices as well as our contributions to CAFOD and St Cuthbert’s Care. Donations of food to our local food bank would also be an appropriate way to fulfil our Lenten responsibilities
St Bede’s School & St Benet’s School
This is an important time of new beginnings for both our schools. On 1st March St Benet’s High School along with St Paul’s First School and St Peter’s Middle School in Cramlington will become part of the Pax Christi Academy . We pray for all the schools involved in this new stage of their School’s lives. As mentioned last week Mr Damian Groark has been appointed as Headteacher for St Bede’s School on a permanent basis. The Pax Christi Academy will be run by a board of directors with local governing bodies for each school. St Bede’s will be governed by a separate governing body. I will be a member of both the board of directors for the Academy and St Bede’s governing body.
