Moving Forward In Hope
I would like to give a very warm welcome to Fr Jim O’Keefe who is the diocesan director for the Moving Forward In Hope’ process.  Fr Jim will be speaking at both Masses to explain the reasons for this process, the steps that will be involved and our involvement and contribution to it.  I am sure Fr Jim will be very welcome to answer any questions after both Masses.  I also hope that our young people will have the opportunity to meet with him after the 10.00 am Mass.  Please keep the process in your prayers.
LENT
We begin our annual journey to Easter with Lent starting on Wednesday.  Mass on Ash Wednesday will be at 10.00 am and 7.00 pm.  Lent is an opportunity to renew and deepen our relationship with God and to discern his call for us at the present time. During Lent the following will be taking place:
· Tuesday’s, (from 10th March).  The parish Mass will be in St Benet Biscop’s school chapel at 12.30 pm.
· Thursday’s (from 19th February) Ecumenical Lenten lunches at here St Bede’s from 12 noon with prayer at 12.45 pm.
· Friday’s (from 20th February) Stations of the Cross at 10.00 am,   Confessions from 6.00 pm.  Mass at 6.30 pm.
· Day of Recollection at Alnmouth on Saturday 7th March, 9.15 am to 5.00 pm.  Please sign list in the Narthex.
· Penitential service, Sunday 29th March at 4.00 pm.
Lenten Lunches
As mentioned above you will see it is our parish’s  turn to host the Ecumenical Lenten lunches on Thursday’s during Lent.  The various churches will take responsibility for providing the soup but will still need volunteers to heat and serve the soup.  My thanks to those who have volunteered to provide soup for the 19th February.  Any more offers to provide soup and help with the other Thursday’s would be appreciated.
Journey of Faith on Wednesday at 6.30 pm. This will be a short reflection on Lent with the group coming to the Mass at 7.00 pm.
CAFOD Family Fast Day is on Friday 20th February.  Envelopes are available in the Narthex.
Christ in the World Group  will next meet on Friday 13th March when we will continue to explore how key themes in Catholic social teaching are relevant for the general election in May.
   Parish email address
We are having problems getting to the parish email account.  At least for the time being if you wish to contact me by email please use:  bedebedlington@live.co.uk
Parish Confirmations
At the moment we have eight candidates for Confirmation on 5th June. There  next session will be after half-term on 26th  February.  There will also be a session for parents on the same evening.  My thanks to those confirmed last time who shared their experience to our new candidates
World Youth Day
My thanks to Patrick Denton for giving us helpful information for World Youth  event  in 2016.  The official date is 25th July to 1st August.  We will give more information when we have it.  The cost will be about £1,000 per person.  The list for taking part is already open and two young people have already signed up for it.  Please contact me if you are interested in taking part.
St Bede’s School
I am delighted to say that on Thursday, the Federated Governing body of St Benet’s and St Bede’s appointed Mr Damian Groark as the permanent Head Teacher for St Bede’s. Our congratulations and best wishes to Mr Groark and I look forward to the school and the parish strengthening their working relationship. We as a parish promise him and the whole school our prayers and support.
Last week, the school had an informal visit from OFSTED. The inspector was very positive about the changes and progress he has seen from his last visit in October.  My thanks to Mr Groark and to all the staff for their hard work and commitment.  It is bearing fruit!
Matthew Project
Giving to those in need is part of our Lenten practices as well as our contributions to CAFOD and St Cuthbert’s care.  Donations of food to our local food bank would also be an appropriate way to fulfil our Lenten responsibilities
