LENT
We continue our annual Lenten journey. Lent is an opportunity to renew and deepen our relationship with God and to discern His call for us at the present time. During Lent the following will be taking place:
· Wednesday, there will beMass will be in St Benet Biscop’s school chapel at 12.30 pm.
· Thursdays, Ecumenical Lenten lunches here at St Bede’s from 12 noon with prayer at 12.45 pm.
· Fridays, Stations of the Cross at 10.00 am, Confessions from 6.00 pm. Mass at 6.30 pm.
· Penitential service, Sunday 29th March at 4.00 pm.
Lenten Lunches
My thanks to those who provided the soup on Thursday. Volunteers to host and serve on Thursday lunchtimes will still be appreciated.
Journey of faith continues on Thursday evening at 6.30 pm. This will be our last full session before we have rehearsals on Wednesday of Holy Week. Please keep our candidates in our prayers.
Confirmations
We take a break for Easter with the next session on 23rd April.
St Bede’s School
The pupils from St Bede’s will be joining us on Wednesday at 10.00 am as their Holy Week Mass. I am sure it will be as moving and memorable an occasion as was the Advent and Christmas liturgies. I would encourage parishioners to attend.
The Deanery
It has been announced that Fr Lee Barrett will take up the role of Parish Priest of St Paul’s in Cramlington the weekend after Easter. Fr Barrett has also been asked to help other parishes in the deanery. I am sure that this will mean that Fr Lee will be assisting other priests as we help to cover St Robert’s in Morpeth while Fr Jones is poorly. Last weekend Fr Jones announced to the parish that he does have cancer and is exploring with his doctors possible treatments. We continue to keep Fr Lawrence and the parish in our prayers.
SVP National raffle tickets are on sale this weekend.
Gift Aid and Planned Giving
There are still several boxes to be collected, please take yours today. The new envelopes commence on 5th April 2015. If you are in gift aid and no longer a tax payer please let us know as soon as possible.
There will be a Second Collection next Sunday for Holy Places. Please use the white envelope from your boxes.
Liturgy Rotas
Copies of liturgy rotas are available in the Narthex. Please take a copy today.
General Election
The Bishops of England and Wales have written a letter to all Catholics identifying key themes for us to reflect on as we decide for whom we wish to vote for on 7th May. We discussed this document at the Christ in the World group. As one member said “its pussy footing but it’s good”.
Marriage Care
This organisation, which supports Catholics in marriage is looking for a co-ordinator for Tyneside. Please see poster in narthex for more information
