Welcome
A warm welcome to Fr Tony Rattigan.  He too is moving to pastures new, later this month he will take up his role as Chaplain to HMP Durham.  Our thanks to Fr Tony for help he has given to us over the past three years.  We wish him God’s blessing as he takes up his new appointment.

Changes in the Parish
The deanery has met and we should be able to inform you soon, hopefully next week, of what the new Mass arrangements will be for St Bede’s and St Robert’s, Morpeth, once Fr Peter has arrived.  As we wait for the changes to take place I think it is very important that we remind ourselves of what we have been trying to do as a parish and work together to live out the key parish practices that are needed for this parish to be maintained and flourish. Please take a copy of the summary of what I wrote five years ago as a reminder of the “blueprint” we have been working with and I hope it will continue to guide you in the week’s and months ahead.
Moving Forward Together in Hope  -  MFTH
On the notice board and on the Narthex table there are copies of the next steps of the process over the coming months.  Over the next week we have two important steps in these early stages of MFTH.  This Friday we will have a Mass for the sick and housebound during which the sick and housebound will be commissioned as “prayer anchors” to pray for the parish during this time.  The sacrament of anointing will also be available to anyone wishing to receive this.  The mini-vinnies from St Bede’s school will also be joining us.
Next Sunday after 10.00 am Mass I would like to invite all the young people, pupils from both St Bede’s and St Benet’s to meet to look at the questions for young people that are in the questionnaire.
The MFTH is very relevant for the parish at this time since the key focus is how can our parishes be maintained and flourishing communities.  This is a very key questions when the parish will be sharing a priest with St Robert’s.
Parish Council
Minutes of the last meeting are on the notice board and copies are available from the Narthex.  The parish council will meet on 13th July, not as a formal meeting but to help Tony Hart complete the first part of the MFTH questionnaire.  Under Canon Law a new appointment of the Parish Priest results in the ending of the parish council in its current form.  It will be up to Fr Peter to decide what happens in the future.  I would like to express my thanks to all who have served on the parish council over the past five years. Their commitment, effort and insights have been much appreciated.  My personal thanks to all who have contributed to the work of the parish council in the past five years

Congratulations

Our prayer and congratulations to Fr Peter Stott your new parish priest who celebrated his silver jubilee as a priest last Monday.  A card signed by some of the parishioners and myself was sent on your behalf.  We continue to pray for him as he prepares to leave North Shields.

St Bede’s School

Next Sunday at the 10.00 am Mass the children of St Bede’s school will lead us in our readings, prayers and music.  It should be a joyful and uplifting occasion.

Pupils in Year 1 and 2 will join us for Mass on Wednesday at 10.00 am.

Retiring Collection

A retiring collection will be taken next weekend for Apostleship of the Sea.( Envelopes are available for those who wish to Gift Aid their donation in the Narthex). Having recently met various port chaplains in recent weeks I am aware of the important work they do in the ports in our diocese and throughout the country.  Please pray for their important work and for all seafarers.

Refugee/Asylum Seekers

There is a collection today for tins of food (not pork) for refugee and asylum seekers.  Please leave in Narthex.  Next collection on first Sunday of the month.

Christ in the World

The meeting will be on Friday at 7.00 pm. We will carry on our discussion concerning the ’making a noise for Bedlington’ campaign. I will also give a brief overview of the Pope’s encyclical ‘Laudato Sii - Be Praised’.  There are copies of the summary I have written in the Narthex.
