Changes in the Parish

There will be an extraordinary meeting of the parish on Thursday 30th July at 6.30 pm.  The Episcopal Vicar Fr Stephen Watson and the Dean Fr Ian Hoskins will address the parish regarding the changes that will take place. It is very important that as many of you as possible are at this meeting. The parish council have produced a flyer.  Please take one for anyone in the parish who is not at Mass this weekend. I would like to express my thanks to the parish council for their work in bringing to people’s attention this important meeting.  BE THERE!

Day for Life

This year the theme is ‘Cherishing life, accepting death’.  The theme is very relevant in our country with the Assisted Suicide Bill coming before Parliament on 11th September.  This will put the most vulnerable people in our society at risk.  It is important to note that even non-religious groups, especially those representing people with disabilities are especially concerned about this Bill. Please contact your MP, urging them to attend the debate and vote against the Bill. You can send an e-mail to your MP via the Catholic Bishops’ Conference website (www.catholicnews.org.uk/assisted-suicide) or send a letter by post, a draft of which can be found at the back of the Church.

There will be second collection today for Day for Life.  To gift aid your donation please use the special envelope from your box.

Prayer Vigil  -  Moving Forward Together in Hope  -  MFTH

The 24 Hour prayer vigil will take place on 2nd/3rd October. Please see sheet with list of roles that will be needed and possible content for the 24 hours. Please support members of the Prayer and Worship group as they prepare to lead you in this event.  At a meeting that was held on Wednesday with members of the spirituality group, some of the parish council and  Kathryn Turner, who is the head of the diocesan spirituality department, there was a very fruitful discussion which pencilled in different types of prayer and worship for the whole 24 hours. We will look a the story of salvation from Creation to Pentecost, starting at 3pm on October 2nd., finishing, we hope, with Mass at 2.00pm on October 3rd. The primary school and the young people will also be involved The next meeting will be on Wednesday 16 September at 7.00pm

World Youth Day

Four people have said they wish to take part in World Youth Day.  I need to know any more names by the end of this month. My thanks to Paddie Denton, and the Leeds diocese for willing to take 16 to 18 year olds.

Congratulations

For those who have not seen last week’s bulletin I would like to repeat my congratulations to the following parishioners Tracy Atkinson, Harry Belizzi, Megan Hill, Beth Lacy and Rebecca Johnston who have all successfully completed exams at their respective universities.  Well done!

I would also like to repeat my congratulations mentioned at the end of Mass last weekend to Lydia Barrass, who is our representative from the High School on our parish council, who has been chosen to be Head Girl  of St Benet’s high school.  I am sure she will strengthen the links between the parish and the school..

Parish Accounts

Apologies for the delay in publishing the accounts for the year 2014/15.  This was due to the finance committee not being able to meet until last Saturday.  Tony Hart will say a few words at the vigil Mass and I will say a few words on Sunday morning about the accounts. As you will see it is a much more healthier situation than last year.  My thanks to the parish for your continued generosity.

Farewell Social for Fr Chris

This is taking place after vigil Mass on Saturday 15th August. If you would like to contribute food for this occasion please sign the list in the Narthex.  Obviously all are welcome. There are forms in the Narthex about this event please fill them in as soon as possible.

Asylum Seekers

There will be a collection next weekend for tins of food (not pork) for refugee and asylum seekers.  Please leave in Narthex.

Sick and Housebound

I am trying to ensure that all our sick and housebound will have a special minister to visit them once I have moved on.  My thanks to Eucharistic ministers willing to take on extra responsibility.  If you are aware of anyone who is not able to get to Mass and would like to receive holy communion please let me know as soon as possible.
