Assumption of Our Lady

Today we celebrate the feast day of the Assumption of Our Lady.  For me this feast day is a celebration of hope for when Mary is now present we are called to follow.  It is a celebration that humanity despite its limitations is called to be united with God for eternity.

This weekend

I would like to welcome family, friends and guests who have come to take part in my farewell event.  As I write this at the start of this week I have no idea what to expect on Saturday evening, but I am conscious that a lot of hard work, effort, and careful thought is being used to prepare for the farewell event.  I am very grateful to al linvolved.  I am sure I will have more to say in next week’s bulletin.

Changes in the Parish

For those of you who have not heard or were not at St Bede’s last weekend I want you to know that at a meeting on 30th July the Episcopal Vicar, Fr Stephen Watson, and the Dean, Fr Ian Hoskins, informed a meeting of the parish that the Bishop had decided that as from September we will only have one Mass at a weekend and this will be on a Saturday night.

This weekend is the last opportunity if you have not already done so to express your time for the vigil Mass.

The Bishop has made it very clear  that no form of worship other than attending the Mass will fulfil your obligation. For this reason he is not wiling to allow other forms of prayer and worship other than the Mass on a Sunday in churches in the Diocese.

Prayer Vigil  -  Moving Forward Together in Hope  -  MFTH

The 24 Hour prayer vigil will take place on 2nd/3rd October. Please see sheet with list of roles that will be needed and possible content for the 24 hours. On Monday evening there was a very useful meeting between the spirituality group, some members of the parish council, and the deanery evangelisation team.  The 24 hour vigil is very much taking shape.  The next meeting will be on 3rd September at 7.00 pm in the Church Hall. Along with the preparation team the young people from the parish and the deanery will also meet to prepare for the dramas they are going to lead.  All young people are welcome to this.

World Youth Day

I am now aware of six young people who wish to take part World Youth Day.   Paddie Denton will be arranging a meeting soon for those interested.

A Request to Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist and Readers
Please check amended liturgy rota for duties in August and September.  If you are not going to be able to take attend the vigil Mass once it is our only Mass at the weekend please notify me or the parish secretary as soon as possible so that we can draw up the new rotas.  If I do not hear from you I will presume you will be able to attend the vigil Mass.
