Thank You

I am overwhelmed by the generosity, affirmation, gratitude, and best wishes that was expressed at my farewell ‘do’ last weekend.  I have been profoundly touched and moved by the sheer scale of what I experienced on Saturday night.  I would like to express my thanks to all who organised the event, clearly a huge amount of work has been spent in preparing for the event from organising the catering, collecting and organising the wonderful gifts I received and the beautiful liturgy that was prepared.  The event last Saturday showed what as a parish you can create and organise with no involvement with the priest as long as he just turns up on the day!  It was also very evident that a great deal of thought and care had gone into deciding what gifts to give me.  The cover of the Rolling Stone magazine with Pope Francis was spot on.  I will look forward to my first ever International Rugby game in March next year and the glass sculpture of the church window and the wonderful painting of the Christ figure on the sanctuary are beautiful gifts that will always be a moving reminder of my time here.  I am also very grateful for your tremendous generosity in enabling me to fulfil a long-held wish to go to Burma.  I am told the figure raised is over £1,000.  It is times like these the words thank-you seems inadequate but please know that in saying 'thank you' to all for your kindness and generosity, it is profoundly and very sincerely meant.  As I said on Saturday I will always be grateful to this parish since you gave me the confidence to be a parish priest.  I will never forget this.  My actual last weekend will be next week.

Changes in the Parish

Next weekend will be the last weekend with two Masses and from the following weekend, 5th September, the new arrangement will be in place.  People’s preferences for Mass times are as following:  5.00 pm  -  34 votes; 5.30 pm  -  20 votes;  6.00 pm  -  18 votes; and 6.30 pm  -  46 votes.  Therefore, in line with the most popular preference, Mass will be the Saturday vigil Mass at 6.30 pm.

Prayer Vigil  -  Moving Forward Together in Hope  -  MFTH

The 24 Hour prayer vigil will take place on 2nd/3rd October. Please see sheet with list of roles that will be needed and possible content for the 24 hours. On Monday evening there was a very useful meeting between the spirituality     group, some members of the parish council, and the deanery evangelisation team.  The 24 hour vigil is very much taking shape.  The next meeting will be on 3rd September at 7.00 pm in the Church Hall. Along with the preparation team the young people from the parish and the deanery will also meet to prepare for the dramas they are going to lead.  All young people are welcome to this.

World Youth Day

I am now aware of six young people who wish to take part World Youth Day. The deanery evangelisation team has also expressed an interested in being involved in World Youth Day.  Paddie Denton will be arranging a meeting soon for all those interested.

A Request to Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist and Readers

Please check amended liturgy rota for duties in August and September.  If you are not going to be able to take attend the vigil Mass once it is our only Mass at the weekend please notify me or the parish secretary as soon as possible so that we can draw up the new rotas.  If I do not hear from you I will presume you will be able to attend the vigil Mass.
