Thank You and Good bye

 

During my last weekend in the parish I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to you all.  I’m grateful for not only the wonderful farewell gifts you gave two weeks ago but for your love and support and willingness to engage with what we were trying  to do as a parish community.  I leave feeling very blessed and affirmed as a priest and as a human being.  I would also to acknowledge my thanks to the many people who have inspired me by their living out of the Gospel and courageous faith during times of struggle and difficulty.  There are too many names to mention but your collective witness has been uplifting and inspiring for me.  I would also like to acknowledge the joy and inspiration given to me by the young members of our parish.  I certainly feel that they are very much part of this parish and have much to offer. 

 

As I leave I appreciate it is a time of transition for the parish.  You will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers.  I know you will give a very warm welcome and encouragement to Fr Peter and also hope and pray that the tremendous sense of community will be sustained so that the parish can move forward together united in faith, hope and love.

Changes in the Parish

 

From next weekend the one Mass will be the vigil Mass at 6.30 pm. 

 

Prayer Vigil 

 

The 24 Hour prayer vigil will take place on 2nd/3rd October. Please see sheet with list of roles that will be needed and possible content for the 24 hours. On Monday evening there was a very useful meeting between the spirituality     group, some members of the parish council, and the deanery evangelisation team.  The 24 hour vigil is very much taking shape.  The next meeting will be this Thursday at 7.00 pm in the Church Hall. Along with the preparation team the young people from the parish and the deanery will also meet to prepare for the dramas they are going to lead.  All young people are welcome to this.

 

Moving Forward Together in Hope  -  MFTH

 

On Saturday 12th September from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm there is an open meeting for the parish.  At this meeting members of the parish council, and other parishioners, led by Tony Hart will feed back to you the first part of the questionnaire.  This should give us an accurate picture of what is happening in the parish at the current time.  During this day you will be asked to reflect on the findings of this part of the questionnaire and then you will be led in a reflection and discussion on the second part of the questionnaire as to how the parish can develop and flourish in the different areas that have been highlighted in the questionnaire. I hope this day will be fruitful for you all and give you a firm foundation to complete the questionnaire when there will be a further day for the parish on 31st October. 

 

Despite the changes that have taken place I do believe MFTH is still a very important process for the parish, not least since it will give the parish an opportunity to express their hopes and concerns for the parish.

 

The Joy of the Gospel— an Ecumenical Event

 

On Sunday 6th September at Durham Cathedral at 3.30 pm there will be an ecumenical event on the “Joy of the Gospel”, hosted by the Anglican Diocese of Durham and the RC Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle. The Archbishop of Liverpool, Malcolm McMahon, and the Archbishop of York, John Sentamu, will lead the celebration.  The deanery is hoping to organise a bus for this event please sign the form in the Narthex if you are interested in attending this event.

 

Deanery Evangelisation Team

 

This group seeks to explore how we can witness to the Gospel in this area.  Their next meeting will be here at St Bede’s on 19th September, starting at 12 noon to 3.30 pm.  If you would like to support this group you are very welcome to do so. 

A Request to Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist and Readers

 

Please check amended liturgy rota for duties for September.  If you are not going to be able to take attend the vigil Mass once it is our only Mass at the weekend please notify me or the parish secretary as soon as possible so that we can draw up the new rotas.  If I do not hear from you I will presume you will be able to attend the vigil Mass.

 

Schools Returns

The schools return this week.  I hope the pupils and staff of the schools have had a good and restful holiday.  I would like to give my best wishes to all the staff and pupils of St Bede’s and St Benet’s, especially to their respective  Heads, Mr Todd and Mr Groark.  I would also like to express my thanks for the support and encouragement I have received from both schools.
