Holy Week Celebrations
I would like to pass on my thanks to all who contributed in making the Easter Triduum celebrations so prayerful and moving. I am conscious that a large number of people were very generous with their time and energies. The week felt very much like a team effort. Many thanks and well done! I was not aware of any significant issues ( Veneration of the Cross was easier this year!) but if you do have any suggestions on how to develop the Triduum services, please let me know.

Parish Mission December 2012
We  to have a parish mission in December of this year. During that month I will celebrate 25 years as a priest. Ordained priesthood only makes sense in the light of the calling of all the baptised. Therefore, it is not just my vocation that needs to be celebrated but the calling we all have to follow Christ in our own particular ways of life. So the evenings of the mission will explore the significance of Baptism, the calling of those married, the calling of those not married, we will celebrate the  role of young people in the parish and on the final night we will look at the ordained priesthood. Unlike the previous mission, it will not be given by an outside group. My hope  is that as a parish we will work together so that the evening liturgies are given by the parish to the parish. I want the parish to reflect on their vocations and encourage some of you to take make a contribution in preparing and celebrating the evening liturgies. We have had a kind offer from those who lead the Music week-end to help with the music.
Some initial step in preparation of the mission have been agreed by the parish council. These are as follows

Thursday April 26th  7.00pm - An invitation to all on the parish groups (such as the parish council, the pastoral group, the spirituality group, the finance committee, social committee, Christ in the World group) to meet for Fr Chris to explain more about the mission

Weekend of April 28-29th - Fr Chris to explain more about the mission during his homily

Sunday May 13th 12 Noon  After Mass there will be an Open meeting to all the parish with a shared table where Fr Chris will say more about the mission and how the mission will be planned and organised

Parish Walk at Cresswell - Sunday 29 April
Why not put a ‘spring’ in your step and come and join us for either an afternoon sponsored walk, just a gentle stroll along the beach at your own pace, or a visit to the bird hides at Cresswell (12.45 pm Cresswell Beach Public Car park).  This will be followed by a truly scrumptious afternoon tea in the Parish Hall provided by some of the very best volunteer bakers in Bedlingtonshire (4.00 pm)! Perhaps you just want to come along for tea without the walk, that’s fine too, just let us know on the list.
The Social Committee has organised this event so that the proceeds can be donated to the Maria Luiza Orphange in Bulgaria where the children that Rebecca and Beth worked with last year, still need our support.
To reserve your place for afternoon tea (Adults £4 / children free) and to let us know if you need a lift, please sign the list at the back of church.  Information sheets and walk sponsorship forms (optional) are also available.  Contacts – Pat Gales 07724659446 or Margaret Lacy 07801795400.
In the unlikely event of rain we understand that some participants may not be able to attend the beach walks. Please note that the afternoon tea will STILL be provided to all who have placed their names on the list.
