Note of Thanks from a young parishioner
Thank you to all who supported the recent quiz night by turning up and contributing to a wonderful supper. Special thanks to Laurie and the Social Committee who had agreed to make this night a fund raising effort to enable me to join my sister Rebecca and Beth when they go back to the Marie Luiza orphanage in Bulgaria this summer - your generous donation is much appreciated. Thanks must also go to the kind individuals who made personal donations too.
Central Bulgaria has suffered particularly badly this winter with extremely low temperatures and deep snow lasting for weeks, the orphanage has had to dig deep into it's limited resources and therefore welcome all help offered. Laura Johnson
Legacy to the parish
On Maundy Thursday I received a cheque for £2,000 from the solicitors of the late Joan Caine. Please keep Joan in your prayers. I am grateful for her generosity to the parish.
First Holy Communion
Next Sunday there is a first holy communion liturgy ‘In memory of Me’.
Holy Hour with Deanery Clergy
Since the turn of the year the deanery clergy have been meeting on the last Friday of the month for a time of prayer and a meal. On Friday 27th April , Bedlington is hosting this monthly meeting. The Holy Hour will be from 6 to 7.00 pm with evening prayer at 6.45 pm. Parishioners are very welcome to join us. I have found praying with local clergy and parishioners to be very powerful.
Baptism
Today we welcome Tyler Bell Carr and Janie Rachael Lee into God’s family in baptism. We are asked to pray for Tyler, Janie, their families, and all preparing for baptism.
St Bede’s School Year 4, 5 and 6 will join us for Mass on Tuesday.
Sick and Retired Priests
There will be a Second Collection today for sick and retired priests in the Diocese. There are envelopes in the Narthex if you wish to gift aid your donations. The fund will remain open for the next two weeks.
Pentecost Retreat
Minsteracres Retreat Centre. “Return to the upper room”, led by Katrina Cooper, editor of the Good News magazine, , Friday 25th to Sunday 27th May. Contact 01434673258 or www.minsteracres.org.
St Cuthbert’s Care’s’ Mass of the Good Shepherd
The parish is hosting a Mass involving St Cuthbert’s Care and children from various Catholic schools in the area who have contributed to St Cuthbert Care’s' Lenten appeal. Parishioners are very welcome to take part in this event. This will take place on Monday 30th April at 10.00 am.
Parish Walk at Cresswell - Sunday 29 April
This will start at Cresswell (12.45 pm Cresswell Beach Public Car park) followed by a truly scrumptious afternoon tea in the Parish Hall provided by some of the very best volunteer bakers in Bedlingtonshire (4.00 pm)! Perhaps you just want to come along for tea without the walk, that’s fine too, just let us know on the list.
Proceeds will be donated to the Maria Luiza Orphange in Bulgaria where the children that Rebecca and Beth worked with last year.
To reserve your place for afternoon tea (Adults £4 / children free) and to let us know if you need a lift, please sign the list at the back of church. Information sheets and walk sponsorship forms (optional) are also available. Contacts – Pat Gales 07724659446 or Margaret Lacy 07801795400.
Even if there is rain tea will still be provided at 4.00 pm.
