Holy Week

begins weekend with the celebration of Palm Sunday.  This is the most important week in the Church’s year.  Both Masses this weekend, will begin in the hall where we will have the blessing of the palms and remember Christ’s entry into Jerusalem. The Easter Triduum will be celebrated as stated below.  These are the most important of the Church’s liturgical celebrations for the whole year and I would encourage as many people as possible to come to these events. Pope Francis has invited us to walk with Christ and the Easter Triduum services give us the opportunity to do just that.  I hope that you all have a very blessed and fruitful Holy Week.

Maundy Thursday:  (28 March) Mass of the Last Supper at 7.30 pm.

Good Friday:  (29 March) Celebration of the Lord’s Passion at 3.00 pm.

Holy Saturday :   (30 March) Easter vigil for the Lord’s Resurrection at 8.00 pm

Easter Sunday : (31 March) Mass for Easter Sunday, 10.00  am.

CAFOD Syrian Refugees Appeal  CAFOD have opened an emergency appeal for the situation in Syria which is getting worse by the day. The number of refugees who are escaping the country and in need of help are increasing.  There will be a retiring collection that will be left open for the next three weeks.

Parish Life and Activities  You will see on the notice board in the back of church and in the narthex a poster display which shows the full extent and diversity of the range of ministries that takes place within the parish.  When you have time I would like you to have a look at the display so that you can appreciate what is taking part in the parish and see if there

is anything you also could contribute. My thanks to Alison Johnston on her work on this.

St Bede’s First School  The whole school will join us for Mass on Tuesday at 10.00 am

Pope Francis  We continue to pray for Pope Francis. I sense this could be a time for new beginnings.  I am personally very hopeful and excited about the future.  May he be open to the Holy Spirit as be begins his papal ministry.

Penitential Service

My thanks to all who contributed to the Penitential service last Sunday. All the feedback I have received has been very positive. It is tremendous to see different skills, efforts and talents being used from across the parish. If you were unable to be at St Bede’s reconciliation service last Sunday there is an opportunity at St Wilfrid’s, Blyth  on Tuesday 26th March, 7.00 pm.

Retiring Collection  - Holy Places  A collection will be taken today for Catholic communities in the Holy Land.

If you are a taxpayer and not in the scheme, please consider signing a gift aid declaration whereby the parish can reclaim 25 pence in every £1 you donate.  Please let us know if there are any change of circumstances, details, address ……. ..
