Restructuring of Deaneries
This deanery of South East Northumberland met with the deanery for North Northumberland on Wednesday 26th June and agreed to become one deanery.  The new deanery will be known as the deanery of Ss Wilfrid and Paulinus.  The Bishop has appointed Fr Ian Hoskins as the new dean.  Fr Ian Hoskins is the parish priest for Longhorsley, Thropton and Rothbury. The clergy elected for Fr Lawrence Jones as vice dean.  There is still no indication when further changes will take place within the new enlarged deanery.

Amendment to Eucharistic Prayers
The Vatican Congregation for the Sacred Liturgy with approval of Pope Francis have decreed that St Joseph be acknowledged in all the Eucharistic Prayers.  So after reference to Our Lady the phrase “with blessed Joseph, her spouse” will be said.  The Vatican decree made reference to St Joseph as a model of kindness and humility which is why they think he should be referred to in all the Eucharistic Prayers.

Parish Ceilidh
The next parish ceilidh will be next weekend, Saturday 13th July starting at 7.30 pm. Tickets £5 available from members of the social committee.

Parish Youth Forum
This weekend there will be an initial meeting of a parish youth forum this week-end after the 10.00am Mass The aim of the meeting  will be to agree on some sort of structure for the group and a discussion of what the group would like to see in the parish.  All people under the age of 18 will be very welcome.

First Holy Communion Programme 2013/14
Discussions have already started about the First Holy Communion programme for 2013/14.  There will be an introductory meeting for those parents who would like to enquire about their children receiving First Holy Communion on Monday 15th July at 5.00 pm in St Bede’s School. Any parents of Catholic children in Year two or higher years of any school are welcome to attend this meeting.

Catechists in the Parish
As mentioned last week there is a need in the parish for catechists to help with both the Baptismal preparation and First Holy Communion programme Next weekend, on Sunday 14th July  after  morning Mass, there will be an meeting of anyone who would like to help with either of these programmes. It is important that more parishioners are involved with these important areas of parish life. If  you  like to find out about more please come to the meeting or contact myself or Alison Johnston.

Student takeover of the Presbytery!
My thanks those who offered in any way to help with the students visit from Sussex University. Unfortunately the trip had to be cancelled, so my week has been a lot quieter than it could have been!

Liturgy Rotas
If you are involved in the liturgy please take a copy of the new rota which is available in the Narthex today.

Refugee/Asylum Seekers
There will be a collection this weekend for tins of food (not pork) for refugee and asylum seekers.  Please leave in Narthex. Next collection first Sunday of the month.

Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes
As you may have seen or even heard on local radio there has been some uncertainty  as to whether the diocesan pilgrimage would take place due to storms and floods that have taken place in Lourdes that has damaged a number of hotels that are used by the diocese  The pilgrimage will still be going ahead.  Please keep in your prayers all those involved and the people of the place and town of Lourdes at this difficult time.

The Beginning Experience
As you may know this organisation provides support  to those whose marriage has ended either in separation, divorce or widowhood.  They are having a weekend retreat , 4th to 6th October at Minsteracres, near Consett.  Please see me or poster in Narthex for further details.

Prisoners of Conscience
The very active Justice & Peace group in St Charles, Gosforth are adopting a prisoner of conscience each month and are forwarding to me the details of the particular prisoner of conscience with a sample letter for people to write.  This month the prisoner of conscience is from Bahrain, photocopies with details about the prisoner and sample letter will  be left in the Narthex.
