Warm Welcome to Visitors

On behalf of the parish I would like to extend a warm welcome to  any visitors who have joined us for our Masses this weekend.  We hope you feel at home with us while you are away on holiday.  If you are here for the 10 am Mass please know that tea/coffee is available in the hall afterwards and you would be very welcome to join us and please feel free to introduce yourself to Fr Chris who is the parish priest.

Day for Life

Today is Day for Life when we are asked to acknowledge the sanctity of human life from its beginning to the end and with everything in between.  The leaflet available quotes Pope Francis while he was the Archbishop of Buenos Aries “Caring for life from the beginning to the end.  What a simple thing, what a beautiful thing …” So, go forth and do not be discouraged.  Care for life. It’s worth it!”

There will be a second collection for Day for Life this weekend.  Please use the white envelope from your box.

Baptism

Today we welcome Annalise Anderson into God’s family in baptism.  We are asked to pray for Annalise, her family, and all preparing for baptism.

Needing a hospital chaplain to make a visit?

The chaplains in hospitals can only visit a patient if it is brought to their attention. They cannot look at patient’s records to discover  if you are a Catholic. If you have a relative or friend in Wansbeck Hospital please contact the Catholic chaplain, Irene Harwood, at the hospital  on 01670 521212 or via Fr Stephen Watson on 01670  812200. If your relative or friend is in another hospital in the region please let me know and I will contact the respective chaplain for you.

Catenian Association

This organisation for practising Catholic men have been in touch with me to ask if I could encourage anyone who would be interested to join this organisation.  If you are please contact Neil McCole 01670 518502.  With the recently sad death of Ralph Simpson no one in the parish at present is a member of this organisation.  I should declare my own interest in that my own father was a member and I know  first hand that they are very supportive to widows in the group.

Food Banks

· Refugee/Asylum Seekers  There will be a collection next weekend for tins of food (not pork) for refugee and asylum seekers.  Please leave in Narthex.

· Matthew Project  Now that many of the government reforms to welfare have come into operation it is predicted that the demands on food banks such as the Matthew Project will be even greater. Therefore, any contributions of basic food stuffs would be most appreciated. Thanks to  all those who contribute and help the Matthew Project

Open House  is taking a well-earned break and will be re-opening on 3rd September.

Blessed John Ingram

· Annual Mass for canonisation of Blessed John  Ingram, Friday 26th July at 12.05 pm, St Joseph’s, Gateshead.

· Annual walk for Blessed John Ingram Sunday 28th July, meeting at St Andrew’s Anglican Church, Newgate Street, Newcastle, 2.45 pm start then to St Edmund’s Chapel, High Street, Gateshead for an ecumenical service followed by refreshments.  (non-walkers please met at St Edmund’s at 3.30 pm)

Diocesan Altar Servers Mass

The annual Altar Servers Mass for the diocese will be at the Cathedral on Saturday 5th October at 11.00 am.  This Mass will be presided by the Bishop.  If any of the altar servers would like to take part please contact me as soon as possible.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference Healthcare Reference Group are seeking a part time Development Facilitator to assist the Episcopal Chair of the Healthcare Reference Group (HRG), and diocesan bishops, to implement the agreed Bishops’ Conference HRG strategy. This role would include “gathering, guiding and giving voice” to this area of work by enabling the work of the national group, the cultivation and encouragement of local networks of Catholics in the fields of  health and social care (including the communication and dissemination of best practice), and by supporting grant holders in the delivery of local projects.

For further details please visit http://cbcew.org.uk/development-facilitator.html.  Closing date for applications is 23rd August 2013.
